Hello all,

New to golf, started in... January I think

Still can't hit the damn thing straight!

Hope to get some good golfing advice here - like, which balls and clubs I should buy n stuff.

And if I could ask.. how long did it take you guys to start enjoying golf?

I'm the sort with a business motivation for golf, so I'm not gong to quit until I get good at it. But I have to say, I'm not exactly doing it coz I love it. I wonder if anybody here had similar emotive progressions in golf, i.e. didn't love it starting out and now can't stop thinking about it...

Unless you are naturally talanted. It will be years and years before you start playing good. But that doesn't mean you cant enjoy it. Heck when I first started playing when I was around 21 years old, I had fun, even if I sliced the hell out of it off the tee every time.

The love for the game will come in time, but don't force it. See it as a challenge.

Advice for clubs, balls, etc. Just buy cheap stuff, no reason to spend big bucks on equipment. My first set of clubs I got from a pawn shop for $75.

Driver: Callaway Big Bertha 10.5*

3WD:  Callaway Big Bertha 15* / X2 Hot H4 Hybrid
Irons:  Callaway Apex 4-PW Project X 5.5 shafts

Wedges: Callaway MackDaddy 2  52/58
Putter: Odyessey Metal X Milled 1

I don't need to be a club-champ amateur to play it for biz though, do I?

And yea, the little more success I have the more I like it. I went to the range today and hit a little better, going tomorrow and hopefully improve on what I got..

In any case, right now I consider being good at it just possessing the ability to hit the ball long and straight!!

    • Day 343 - Mostly worked on pitching, but getting back to my full-swing work, as well.
    • Day 237 (26 Dec 24) - played 18 with niece and her husband at one of the local courses.  We were first out - so we pretty had our own pace of play.  First few holes were a struggle, but the groove started by hole 5.  The green side wedge game kicked in - had several kick in up and down pars.  Best of the day - had my first ever sandie birdie on #9. It’s a neat par three with a pot hole bunker - found it off the tee.  Had about a 22yd shot from the bunker to the flag.  Hit an easy shot out with the 54 that hit softly and gently rolled center cup.  Had several other close wedge shots into others that were close but no hole out.  Was a great day with the green side wedge game - and seeing solid fruit from the drills.
    • Day 16: 12/26/2025 A little more mirror work today. Then out to the garage net.  The first part of my PPJ swing thought is really starting to stick. The J still takes some focus. Plus, I'm still putting a priority on getting all the way to my finish.
