I'm a noob, very very noob but today I finally got my first moment of excitement in golf. It wasn't a far chip but still hahahaha. 355yd par four, I had been taking a beating all day fighting my brutal slice, usually double bogey on every hole because I have yet to manage to correct my swing to where I can square the club on the ball even 50% of the time. I hit the first shot with my 3, not hitting hard, just looking for straight shots into the fairway, followed up with a 4h which is normally my best club and knocked it hard to the right into the trees/grass. Went after it, pulled out the pitching wedge and let her rip towards the green but came up probably 10 ft short. Once I get close to the green I'm usually ok, I can pitch it close to where I want it and 1-2 putt it in, it's the getting from the tee to the green that destroys me.

Well I lined it up, wanted to get it to just pop up nice and high and land flat where I wanted it maybe coming up short because of the slope. Low and behold, it landed right where I wanted it but rolled, rolled, rolled, and dropped in the cup :).

I almost yelled I was so happy hahahaha. I know it's not a huge accomplishment but it felt similar to breaking my first doubles in Sporting Clays, everyone does it but the first one is so sweet.

Granted, the rest of the round was garbage with 2 swimmers, 2 lost, and plenty of penalty strokes but I'm working on that :).

Nice.  First chip-in is fun, and and unlike pars or a bunch of consecutive pars, they remain exciting pretty much forever!

Don't sell yourself short, that is a huge accomplishment! Those types of milestones open the door to more. They build your confidence and that will help improve your game. For me it was recently scoring my first birdie. Since my first, I get one about every other round or so now (on 9 hole outings even) where it took a long time for the first.

    • Day 36: back to some mirror work tonight. Need a bit more forearm roll in my feels to help with the shallowing.
    • _sigh_ so close to red text.  Went away for three days, but didn't do a practice morning-of-departure (Friday) nor evening-of-return (Sunday), so I had three misses, back to day one. Day 1, May 4 2026.  At home today, spent nearly an hour in my practice room, hitting about three dozen practice balls, primarily with my 6-iron.
    • Day 254 5-4 Arms off chest in backswing and downswing. Short swing, pause and then hit.  Hit foam balls. Keeping arching of wrist a focus as well.
    • I would think of it in terms of time. The time it takes to get the arm angle into a good position to deliver the club with proper shaft lean. Another component is rotation, but that is also a matter of timing. It relates to how the body stalls to give the golfer time to hit the ball. If you have to get 80+ degrees out of that right elbow in one third of a second versus 50 degrees in the same time then you have to steal time from somewhere. It is usually body rotation. That does not help with shaft lean.  I agree in that amateurs tend to make the swing more complicated than pro golfers.
    • I haven't been able to practice like I wanted and won't for the next week.  1. The weather sucks in Ohio this year. I have been mostly inside hitting foam balls. Just kind of my basic stuff.  2. I woke up last Saturday with a left side rib muscle on fire. If I turned or leaned a certain way it would spasm that almost buckled my knees. I have been taking a break to let that settle. I don't want to get a long term injury. I think I pinched a nerve or just aggravated a muscles.   3. I am going on a mini-vacation to Florida (screw you Ohio weather) with a friend, and rolling that into a work conference I have next week. I will be with out my clubs for a week.  I will be back next in two Fridays to hit the ground running with some warmer temps and better weather in Ohio, hopefully. I would really like to get more out on the course and the range.
