I have a Cleveland RTG (raw finish - NO chrome) that im trying to "accelerate" the rusting process on.I have previously done this to a Vokey raw and before that a Cobra "trusty rusty".

Normally i have sprayed the head with a saltwater solution, left to dry and repeated and repeated. However the material of the Cleveland seems a different kettle of fish. The rust is really ugly, patchy, green in places (ARGHHHHHHHHHH) and not at all a uniform finish.........

I know that replica gun makers who replicate old guns use various methods to get parts rusty uniformly, but cant find any info online.

Any ideas or suggestions ?

But surely to accelerate it i need more than that.Anyway, doesnt oxidistaion rely on mosture and air.Aint going to get much air under 3 inches of water.

People have told me vinegar,bleach,salt,acid.... ?????????

I do this with my Mizuno wedges and it helps. I soak'em overnight and just put them in the bag without wiping them off but I have to repeat it often Use cold water as it has more oxygen then hot water.

I used to put my Vokey Oil Can in a my very wet golf towel overnight. Major rust. Ruins the towel though.

If the club is rusting but looking uneven, you can take some steel wool and lightly rub the clubhead. This will help even it out. Otherwise, the "wrapped in a towel with saltwater overnight" trick is the best I've seen.

In my experience, Cleveland RTG wedges do take longer to rust completely than other "raw" wedges. Might be because Cleveland's 588 wedges are cast from 8620 steel, rather than the softer 1020/1030 steel used in most forged wedges. Also has a lot to do with your location, weather conditions, etc.

Thanks very much for the info chaps.Ive been at it morning, noon and night for 5 days now (even took it into work !!!).Been using salt spray, wrapping in towels overnight both salted and unsalted, dipping in buckets etc etc etc

Some places have really good, hard, deep black rust - other places havnt even STARTED to go yet.Looks kinda like tiger stripes at the moment - but it is slowly getting there.

Thanks for the info on the longer timescale Donald.Trouble is im so damn impatient.I also fail to understand how i cant stop my garden gates, car, bicycle from going rusty, yet cant even get my wedge started so to speak. lol

    • Day 66 (15 May 26) - Played in Friday men’s shootout - solid round of 81 (39/42) 7 of the 11 pars were up and down 1 putts (29 total).  Short game came to the rescue….
    • Thanks, Matt, for the AI summary.   I found the probability interesting.   It was mentioned that the host talked to a college coach, and no college coaches were knocking down his door trying to recruit him.   He was on the JV team last year, this year being the only time on varsity.
    • I started taking my son with me when he was 2-1/2 but only with my regular group.  I asked before I started taking him if they were ok with it.  Everyone was ok with it and they let him ride with them often. And, they had permission to scold him if he was doing anything wrong.  I think the first time I took him and played with strangers he was almost 4.  By then, he knew golf etiquette and was very well behaved.   If the father of the kid in question here did not take proper measures to control the kid...it is not the kid's fault.  The father should know better.  Being the type of person I am, I would have probably politely said something to the kid myself and if the father was not taking care of any mess he made in bunkers I would have definitely asked "Hey, you going to rake the mess he made? How would you like to land in there and have to play your next shot from there?"

    • One has to wonder what in the world could be going thru her mind standing over the ball and with each one of those take aways and not hitting the ball.  My brain would lock up completely.  If she played with the guys and gals I play with someone would inevitably yell "While we are young" (which we are not) or "just hit the damn thing"
