Hi Guys,

I was just wondering the best courses to play whilst im over and are their any hidden gems that are worth travelling say a couple of hours out of the area to visit?

Cheers, Todd

Were are you staying, and how much do you want to spend? Disney and Champions Gate (south of Disney) have some of the nicest courses in town, but can be expensive. Orlando area has tons of courses.

Orange County National has 2 great courses. They play the Q school finals there every other year. Tend to treat you very well too. Lots of options in the area.

Grand Cypress has two great tracks also, and Reunion has 3. If you're willing to drive, you could head toward tampa to play Copperhead at Innisbrook. Hosts the Transitions Championship each year. The thing about Orlando is great golf is in no short supply, and you can never really get to them all!

Cheers for all the replys guys i really appreciate it, looking forward to some golf on the other side of the pond. I watch the PGA tour every week with envy with the course conditions and most importantly your great weather. Im afraid a set of Galvin Greens and 3 towels are the most important equipment for golfers in the north of England!

I would check out falcons fire, championsgate, grand cypress (my favorite in Orlando) mission inn-el campion (different for Florida because there are elevation changes) then we are a couple hours out of innisbrook, tpc sawgrass (if you have come this far might as well) its possible to get on bayhill. That's three PGA courses. You're going to need more than three weeks.

October is a great time to visit Orlando. The summer heat has broken & it's the beginning of dry season. We don't have the traditional 4 seasons here. Instead we have two - wet and dry season. And dry is the time you want to be here. Starting in mid-October it just stops raining for about 5 months. Expect sunny mid-80's days.

Re golf courses, you've gotten the rota of the must-plays - Championsgate, Reunion, Grand Cypress. That's 8 courses between those three resorts right there, and they're in the same geographic area - southwest of Orlando, which is also near Disney, Universal Studios, International Drive, etc. Tons of great restaurants & non-golf activities.

I always mention my home course when Orlando is discussed, Dubsdread. It's a public course but it's a very fine course & in great shape. Also inexpensive to play. You can get a morning weekend tee time with a cart for about $40. It's in the city, about 25 miles to the northeast of the rest of the courses, but definitely worth the drive. It's where the locals play. Here's the website -

Fun, inexpensive little muni, but not one that I'd recommend if your time is limited in an area with otherwise top level courses......

My family and me just returned from Orlando, last week. I played the Lake Buena Vista golf course, in Disney World. It's one of the nicest courses that I've ever played, and the green fees were only $59, including the driving range.

I've said this before - if you're coming that far to golf and want to play the best courses, not necessarily the ones with the best amenities or because some tournament is played there, then you have to play World Woods in Brooksville, about an hour and a half NW of Orlando.  They have two GREAT courses, and they're relatively cheap.  You can play both in one day, or stay in the area overnight and play all day for two days dirt cheap (relative to the quality of the course).  In October you can probably play all day there for <$100.  Their web site is crap and there's nothing else going on there, and it's in the middle of nowhere, but the golf is second to non.  Well, second to very few at least.

Cheers for all the feedback guys, cant wait to come over to the US, the weather in England this summer as been really bad, i have played golf once in the last 2 weeks, the rain over here closes too many courses. I can understand why Lee Westwood is moving to Florida to improve is practice regime.

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
