I've been Playing Golf for: 1-1.5 years (beginning of last summer)

My current handicap index or average score is: 20

My typical ball flight is: Driver: Fade/Slice   Irons: Mostly straight, slight fade

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Chunking it (fat shot)

Some positive thoughts on my own swing:

  • I like that I'm getting my hips turning before I start coming back down from my backswing, I wasn't doing that before.
  • I think I am keeping my front arm pretty straight and my head it staying pretty still

Some negative thoughts on my own swing:

  • I think I have too much forward and backward hip movement, but I'm no expert.
  • I am bent over a little wierd at address because I am freakishly tall and also have long arms and am using standard length shafts. A fitter told me I should be at least 1 inch over standard, but I can't afford new shafts at the moment, so this is what I'm working with.

Many of you are more well versed in the art of the golf swing. Any thoughts would be helpful :)

I'd like to see some more wrist cock at the top of you backswing which ultimately would give you more power coming through the ball (if you don't get flippy with it) and we call all you some more power! Work on that and maybe swinging more around your body after contact and things should improve!

Great, thanks! I think swinging around my body on follow through would really help my fade/slice issue too. I have been working on getting more wrist cock. the mechanics behind it still feels weird but I have a net to hit into so I hit 100 balls or a day so hopefully it feels more natural soon. Any one have any other suggestions?


Looks pretty good for 1-1.5 years.  Mike's comment is useful, but you don't have extreme hip slide at all, especially for a newer player, so feel good about that.  I'd second the rec for using your wrists.  There's almost zero right now.  As you work on getting wrist cock, make sure you keep a consistent wrist bend.  Plenty of good players have had bowed or cupped lead wrist at the top, but personally I think it's easiest to stay consistent by learning to keep a flat wrist at the top.  It's easier to feel versus "I want to be 10˚  bowed, am I 15˚ bowed at the top today?"

My little brother had been paying for the same amount of time and has already been in a national tournamentn (NJAAC division 3 but still), you should see his swing its a beauty. Ill work on that and report back :)
