I'd say yes, just because it would be cumbersome. I have a Skycaddie, and have a few friends that use GPS apps. Those fit in your pocket so they are easy to use. The Ipad you would have to keep in the cart and could really slow things down.

If you could figure a way to carry it so that it wouldn't get in the way, then go for it. You'd have to get inventive about it. One of the things I like about my Skycaddie is that it clips to my belt. When I use it, it takes 2 seconds to look at it and have it put away. It has actually made my game play go faster since I am not having to second guess my distance and which club to use.

Skycaddie SG5's can be had on Ebay for $80 to $110, depending on condition. I like mine way better than the apps I used before. They drained my battery so fast my phone would be dead by 15. I've used my Skycaddie for 3 rounds and haven't had to charge it yet.

Golfshot has an iPad app and it is sweet.  If I had a club where I owned a golf cart and always drove the same setup... I'd find a mount for it and use it in the golf cart.  But since I don't have that... I just use my iPhone Golfshot app.

I did a quick Google search for 'iPad golf cart mount' and this popped up for a pull cart.

I don't have a pull cart, but it looks pretty legit.  Similar to the mount that I'd use in a golf cart.

If you ride in a cart when you golf then I can see this being alright but otherwise I would have to agree with TufleHundon.  That push cart, no offense, looks rediculous.  It does look very helpful but at the same time do you really want to walk around with that hanging off the side.  I personally use my iPhone and it works just fine.  It fits nicely in my pocket and isn't bulky like the iPad will be.

Looks like a great way to play Angry Birds while waiting for slow old people who don't want to talk to you!

Dude, that is a bad ass cart right there...!!!

I have an ipad and have taken it out on the course with me twice and let me tell you it sucks!!! Way to large to have to handle (even if you are riding in a cart). But if you plan to walk and have a set up like this guy...i say go for it. Otherwise i just stick with my skycaddie. so in answer to your question: Tacky? No. Practical? No.

I always play with a golf cart and I use the Golfshot app on my iPad.  There is really no delay to speak of for using the iPad; I like the big screen much better than having the app on my smart phone.  I also have a gallon zip-lock bag in my golf bag to protect the iPad in case of rain.  I don't have it on a mount, just on the seat beside me.

I think it was last year, but JD had a golf bag with a video board (probably an iPad or other tablet) that was used for advertising.

I have no idea if he is still using that bag, or if it ruled illegal.

So just have a bag made, like this one, and have your iPad mounted into the bag.

    • How would you change the rule to make it more "fair", and still be consistently interpreted and enforced?  It may not be perfect, but as a referee I can watch a player and look at the ground surface and make a ruling.  How can it be changed to address different players and their individual height, weight, and shoe size?
    • A bit old.. but this rule is kind of unfair ...  Lets say that you have Emiliano Grillo and Darren Clark playing together on a PGA event and on one hole both hit the ball to the middle of the fairway only 1 inch apart. When they arrive to the ball Darren take his stand and water comes out from the ground and remains there so he procceds take a free drop on a dry area and hit his shot.  Afterwards Grillo takes his stance in the same spot as Clark, but because he is a lot ligther, no water araise from the ground. According to the rules he is not allowed a free drop from the same spot darren had a free drop seconds before. I would love to see this happenning live on TV. Can an argument be made by grillo? could and official use the "spirit of the rule" to let him have a free drop?
    • Day 84 (24 Jul 25) - Weekly nine hole round cancelled as the course was tied up with a ladies tournament.  No worries - set up with the 54deg wedge and worked on varied shots with green side focus in mine (those nGIR's).  Worked between high floaters and low spinners from varied lies replicating the types of lies I typically see on the courses around here.
    • I meant lb for lb - so yes I agree it's wheel weight. How would you go about explaining that to someone? Perhaps the rotational inertia being higher with heavier wheels and the rotational inertia of the wheel requiring more torque to make its angular acceleration increase at the same rate?
    • Day 7: Had a virtual putting lesson with @iacas. Spent some time afterwords working with the metronome.
