Im almost to the point where I think I'll never be able to get rid of my slice. It's the worst slice in the world because it'll jump off the clubface, start out perfectly straight and powerful, but as soon as the dimples catch the air it does an almost 90* turn to the right. It causes me to rarely use my driver and I am constantly playing from behind other players in my group. My crazy slice only happens with my driver, 3 and 5 woods. It's like I automatically psyche myself out when I have a tee shot and I am always having to play from the right side. I hit my irons straight and flush and always Make a nice dollar bill sized divot with good compression but I can't seem to transfer that swing to my driving clubs. The only thing I can think of is maybe I'm like pulling my right hand/arm to the inside when I make contact and it causes the clubface to be open but I can't figure out how to fix it. I can get my hands in front of the club with irons but I don't know how to do the same thing with my driver. What causes a powerful shot to grab wind and change direction 90* besides the obvious open clubface and how can I fix it? I know it's a broad, general question but if anybody else has had this problem and fixed it, please tell me what you did differently! I shoot mid to high 80's but if I could fix my drive I know I could shave 10 strokes at least from not having to take penalty strokes and make crazy lucky iron shots from the woods or rough on the right. I use a 9.5* razr hawk with the Stiff RIP shaft and I just had it shortened from 46" to 44.25" hoping for more control. I like the 9.5* because I prefer a lower flight that looks like a line drive home run gradually rising as it cuts through the air, when I make a good shot. I would upload a video but I'm not sure how to from my iPhone. Thanks yall

If the ball is starting straight, the club face is square to the target. You need to swing more inside out. This is much easier said than done. I struggle with this myself. Check out the thread I recently started titled Driver help please! There is some good videos posted there.

I have a few videos on my phone but I can't figure out how to upload a video from my iPhone. My laptop was sent away to apple for a couple repairs and a checkup and it hasn't come back yet.

I read about people saying inside out swings, but what does that mean exactly? Like inside with my backswing and coming through the ball on the outside with my downswing? I've seen the pictures with a pane of glass through my hips and making sure you don't bring the club into the pane of glass. Is that what you're talking about?

Keep your right elbow close to your side and your left wrist flat.  If you do those 2 things . .or more accurately, if you do the things that cause those 2 conditions (a flat left wrist and right elbow close in) you should be able to not slice it.

I recently made big improvements in my iron play but almost completely lost my ability to hit a wood.  I was letting my right elbow fly away, which was allowing me to turn less in the backswing and then I would make a slight OTT move and come down too steep.  Worked for irons down to about 5 but my long irons and woods were slicing a good bit and my driver was slicing a lot.

I would say for sure - keep your right elbow tucked in for the backswing.  You will shorten your backswing that way but you are currently going past parallel and you probably don't want to do that.  It's hard to pause the youtube video at the right time but I managed to get one that shows your right elbow away from your body just before impact.  If you keep it closer, you will swing more from the inside . .or maybe if you swing more from the inside, you will keep it closer . .depends on how you think about it.

The screenshot you took makes me think I should also stand up a little straighter and not try to use my legs as much as I am currently trying to use them. I'll go to a range tomorrow before work and try to keep my elbow in more. Ill let you know how it goes

    • Day 22: mirror work for a while. Working on my elbow in the downswing - keeping it in a better position.
    • Day 36 (16 Dec 25) - continued the exaggerated left foot weight shift trigger adding some easy low flighted pitches with the 5h and a few putting style bump and runs with the 5h as well.
    • Day 442 - 2025-12-16 Got some swings in at an indoor academy a little south of Erie.
    • Has anyone played the new Maxfli forged irons? For the first time in I don't know how many years, they have come out with new clubs. From what I read, Maxfli was bought by Taylor Made a long time ago which then took all of their ball making technology and patents in order to get into that market. The club business was left to whither and the reorganized company, now a part of Dicks / Golfworks / Maltby, is producing these new clubs. (Their Tour X balls which I play are really good.) Anyway, I tried them both out at Golf Galaxy. There's a player's distance iron (XC-3) and a blade (XC-2) and both feel really, really nice, almost "Mizuno-like" in their soft buttery feel and they're a bargain at $800 for a set. I'm planning to ditch my Titleist's and want to go back to a forged iron. I almost pulled the trigger on the Mizuno Pro-245's last summer, but a damaged tendon sheath in my finger combined with a back injury messed up my golf game so I held off. Now the Pro-245's are no longer available, soon to be replaced by the MX-15. (At twice the price of the Maxfli's...that's what got my attention in the first place.) If anyone has played with the new Maxfli's or just tried them out like I did, let me know what you think.
    • Day 126 12-16 Back swing and rotation work today. Didn't hit any balls. Focusing on rotating and getting to lead side.
