EXACTLY.. thank you for the facts..  Davis said he was going with the "HOT" pick..  Obviously he wasn't.. It was a personal favor pick (period).. I personally think Van Pelt was the better pick.... OH.. Where is Bo this week at the BMW?   :)

There are always going to be a few people that didn't get picked who are playing very well.  DL3 certainly could have picked Mahan--he was 9th in the points and has the best Ryder Cup record of anyone on this year's team.  But Mahan is dead last this week--so that choice looks brilliant right now.

And the Chicken (aka Furyk) finished higher than BVP this week. DL3 is a genius.

I think they mentioned in coverage today that BVP had more top ten finishes of anyone on the PGA Tour this year.

I would not have picked Furyk and Stricker.

What does this prove? If Mahan backs into the Tour Championship then wins it, and the FedEx, is DLIII the worst captain ever?

It's fine to disagree with his decision, but I think it's out of line to call it a "personal favor pick." Others have outlined some rational reasons to make the decision, and while you might disagree with them, it's a huge leap to accuse DL3 of putting personal favors ahead of his duty to assemble a winning team.

It might be a personal reason, in the sense that his instincts play a part in making the decision, but that's different from its being a "personal favor."

As for not going with the "hot" pick, so what? He changed his mind?

Of course it does.  DL3 should immediately be replaced.

The point I was trying to make is that you can't second guess a captain's pick just because the player picked/not picked is having a good/not-so-good week.  Looking at their stats and performances, during the qualifying period and during past team events, all of this year's picks are worthy picks.

Sure you can. You can second-guess a captain's pick because you ate oatmeal that morning and you heard Davis Love III doesn't like oatmeal. Some reasons are better than others, but it's silly to say you can't second-guess a captain's pick. Of course you can.

BVP would have been a worthy pick looking at their stats and performances on the PGA Tour this year.

And the best part is, no one will ever know who was right! (BTW, if DLIII doesn't like oatmeal, he should be replaced.)

Where's ThominOH?  I'd like to hear him rip DL3 another one for snubbing BVP.

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
