I procrastinated and never upgraded to Lion. Now only Mountain Lion is available on the App Store. Is there anyway I can buy Lion? I guess I might have to pay extra for the usb drive version if it's available.

I'm afraid Mountain Lion is going to kill my battery life. I see in Apple discussions that for 10.7.4, the battery issues have been resolved for many people. I guess I could also wait for the first update to 10.8.

Anyways, what would you recommend? My goal is to upgrade my iOS devices to iOS 5 and use iCloud. I don't currently use any apps that are dependent on the OS version.

The USB version is still on the Apple Store website: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD256Z/A I installed Mountain Lion this morning and haven't come across any battery issues on my early 2011 MacBook Pro. My battery life has always been poor (though much better than the Acer and the Sony I had before). It came with Snow Leopard installed and never got any better with Lion (slightly worse, actually, since the battery has aged some). If anything I'm actually getting great battery life right now (though it's the first day, so my sample size isn't exactly indicative).

I've been running ML on my MacBook Air for a month or two now.

Why would your battery be hurt by ML?

Thanks for the link Jamo, but I think Apple pulled the flash drive.

Erik - I read many accounts on the Apple discussion forums that people only got an hour or two after they upgraded to Lion on their older (2009ish) MB pros, so I didn't want to take the chance. You're right though, I should just upgrade to ML.

I have a 2009ish MB pro still running Snow Leopard and my battery life is crap. Could just be aging of the cells.

The OS can make a huge difference to battery life, though, depending on how good it is at managing the hardware and cpu loads. Don't know anything specifically about ML on the issue thow.

I've been on ML for almost a couple of months now and I'm happy to report only minor battery issues. I've only lost 5 to 10 minutes of the max charge.

The 10.8.2 update helped quite a bit as well: http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/os-x-battery-life-analysis-from-snow-leopard-to-mountain-lion .

Yes, my battery is pretty old - it was getting 3:15 at best but with the dot 2 update, almost 4.

    • Day 132: did some mirror work while watching TV. Worked on backswing stuff primarily.
    • 26 Nov 24 -  It was not a record breaking round by any means, but rather a simple walking of the back nine today playing TBWB (two ball-worse ball) where the challenge is to play the worse of the two shots played - could be an errant drive from the woods, a tree knocked ball that is 100 yds farther back down the fairway, a nGIR ball as opposed to a GIR….the goal today was to stay no worse than bogie thru nine.  Managed to achieve that goal - bogied 7 holes with one dbl and one par to counter the dbl.  It’s about staying focused and not letting a bad shot or lie derail, but rather be an opportunity.
    • Day 208 (26 Nov 24)- Opted to walk 9 today (was the back nine as they had a huge group going off the front) but instead of it being persimmons and blades, I had the regular gamers but made it a TBWB (two ball-worst ball) round.  This really challenges on several fronts - ball striking to be as consistent as possible, course management from non-optimal lies and keeping your head in it as it can be depressing to nail a shot on line-on target and the second rattles the trees right and it’s over 50 yards back and that’s the one you have to play.  The goal was to be no worse than bogie overall (+9).  Finished the round exactly on the number with some solid recoveries, no penalty strokes and only one 3-putt.
