I've been wrong about my swing speed all along...

I went to Golf Galaxy yesterday afternoon and decided to pick up my current driver in both regular and stiff to test the difference in the simulator. My swing speed has been in the upper 80s and low 90s, and I was mostly curious to see if a stiff flex would yield more consistency for me over my regular flex -- knowing that at my speed regular was the way to go. Hell, I had an hour to kill on the other side of town, lets just be honest here... I hit a few with the regular, mostly warming up and duffed a few in the process since their tee was set really low (the normal adjustable one wasn't there for some reason). Looking in the bottom right after each swing, I'm keeping an eye on my swing speed which is right in the low 90s. Normal. One of the people from GG came by and I explained what I was doing, mostly trying to get more consistency and distance from my driver and trying the different shafts. So he started watching me hit a few and kept saying my swing speed was in the low 100s. Turns out I've been looking at the wrong part of the screen. The lower right is the average for the session, the last swing is at the very top. The average is lower because those warm up and duffed shots are all accounted for. Doh. So, turns out I have a faster swing than I thought. Once I warmed up, I hit a few with the regular flex in the 240-250 range, which is where I thought I was. I then hit a few more with the stiff flex in the 250-265 range. I've been considering getting a driver fitting, mostly because I've heard the stock shaft in my club is awful and it's generally too long. After seeing the results on the sim, I'm even more inclined to do so. He said that they'd likely not tell me to do anything different. My shots were in the 240-250 range and all pretty straight, with some pulls mixed in there. He said given that, no reason to switch it up. I told him that's not exactly my normal performance on the course and maybe on a range my flight would have been different. I have a tendency to pull hook every so often, and more often my miss is a push off the tee. So, lesson of the day, make sure you're looking at the correct corner of the simulator for accurate data. :-P

On my outing this afternoon, another day hitting 0 fairways. Frustrating.

I owned a Superfast 2.0 10.5, gripped down on it, and hit it straight. When I was fitted, my club guy put an Adams 9088UL in my hands and I got 6 more mph in swing speed. I liked the Adams.

My guess is you have some swing issues to work out if you can't hit any fairways.

If you like the Superfast 2.0, and I found it a stable, forgiving club, find a better shaft and a more playable length - 45 inches (instead of 46.5). You just can't cut off length - that affects stiffness and swing weight; and that's why you need a club maker.

You're right in both regards. I need a lesson with the driver and a proper fitting with it too. I have a heck of a time hitting the driver with any sort of confidence. No problem on the range or in a sim, the course just doesn't do it for me. Figuring that out would help my game a lot.

when i went to look for a new driver (after demoing one at my course) i was swinging my old driver in the low 80's because it was so flexible i couldn't keep the head from whipping with my normal swing speed. with my new driver it's mid 90s.

i got my sig driver and it's made a world of difference. half of it is the confidence that i'm not going to "outswing" it's flexibility, but just having that leaves me with a lot better shots and a lot less OB balls.

My swing speed ranges from 105-18. I've got 119 swinging 'out of my shoes', but I was just playing to see how fast I could get. At 106-9mph, I just comfortably let the tension fron the legs, hips, shoulders and arms, and let the clubhead do the work. carry ~260 average (Average being the average good shot).
