For a while now I have been sliding my hips. It started out very severe and I have gotten better, but I still seem to slide. I have hit lots of balls with my right foot back and I can smash it but when I return back to my address position I can't seem to just turn. I will upload a video if anyone would like.

Yea, read the link I left in my first post. You want to be sliding your hips on the downswing for many, many reasons. Trying to stop yourself from doing that is only going to make your swing worse.

You're not overly sliding your hips, no.

Make a centered pivot. Then when you slide your hips the correct way, the head doesn't move forward along with said hips.

Really if you put a piece of paper on the screen while it plays your not sliding to your right side as much as you think. Your pretty centered. I would say you could slide more towards the target with your hips. I would try to feel like your keeping more weight on your left leg into the shot, try to keep it flexed more, this will let you get your weight more forward. It will kinda feel like holding a squat if you work out.

Also, i think you take the clubhead to far inside in the backswing, and you seem to have a pretty good gap between your left arm and your chest. Try to feel like your left arm stays connected to your chest more in the backswing, and try not roll the forearms open as much.

The hips will bump and yes they will naturally move forward. But excessive lateral motion is like moving the ball back in your stance. If you watch tigers or rorys head it stays behind the ball not ahead of it.

They won't naturally move forward. Most people don't slide their hips forward much at all. Most people have to practice this.

Read the links I gave you please. It appears to me that you haven't yet.
Hips slide ----> secondary axis tilt created ----> Head stays in place. No one said to move your head ahead of the golf ball.

  1. Most people will not naturally slide the hips forward enough.
  2. Sliding your hips forward is not the same as sliding your head forward.
  3. I showed you a picture of Tiger. I could show you video of Rory too. Hips != Head.

Do some reading please.

Yes, obviously in a good golf swing will have the hips slide a little while the head stays behind the ball. But too much lateral motion results in the body tilting too much to the right. The hips turn more than they slide.

That line was drawn at address and it is clear that the body has slid and tilted too far to the right.

If anyone thinks that in a golf swing no lateral movement is correct that is wrong. Once the weight transfers to the left side the body stays centered and you turn.  In my swing I bump and bump some more and I get out ahead of it. Once the weight transfers it is a turn not a slide.

Too much lateral slide of the hips is a very, very rare thing that almost no one does. I wouldn't worry about that. But too much tilt to the right (for righties) is caused by other things: namely the head and spine tipping back independently of the hips' lateral slide.

You mentioned Hogan before editing your post. You told us to read his book or something? I've read it. Probably over twenty times. I don't want to speak for Erik but yes, he's read it too.

What Ben Hogan said he did and what he actually did are two different things. Hogan was an absolute world beater as a player, but like everyone else in his era, he did not have the advantage of the technology that we have today -- like high speed cameras, trackman, etc. that tell us exactly what is going on in good and bad golf swings and their common traits. The book has a lot of good things in it, but it also has a lot of things that did not stand the test of time. Describing the hip slide as a "hip bump" does not inform the average golfer as to just how much and how quickly a good player shifts his weight and slides his hips in his downswing.

Your weight hasn't transferred far enough forward in your picture. Your hips have not slid far enough forward.

Everyone turns. Not everyone slides and then turns or turns while they are sliding. You don't need any help turning. You do need help sliding. Thinking about it as just slide is a good thing, despite your sarcasm.

Players who are all turn or too much turn need to feel only sliding. They'll turn no matter what they do, so there's no sense in thinking about that.

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
