Playing First Competitive Tourney

I'm pretty excited this weekend is my first competitive tournament. I have been playing golf for awhile, but never have entered a tournament. I've worked hard on my game this summer and hoping it pays off. My question for you guys that have had experience playing in tourneys, what are the main differences between tournaments compared to regular golf? What are some mistakes I should avoid as far as attitude, etc? Also how early do you like to get there? Putt first and then hit balls? Whats a good way to do it? Thanks guys!

It really depends on how you are, naturally, but if you can just remind yourself it's a game and you don't really care all that much.

If a bogey doesn't normally bother you a LOT, there's no reason it should suddenly bother you a LOT just because you're playing a tournament.

I used to play in a lot of pre-flighted tournaments in what is now called the Golfweek Amateur Tour.  I made it a point to be sure and be a person who was fun to play with rather than the uptight ******* that no one could stand. If you can do that, you'll find that your scores will pretty much take care of themselves because you'll be a lot more relaxed. One season I finished the last five tournaments first, second, third, second, first, out of about 20 guys in my flight.

Do however, be prepared for some "slower" play.  Some guys will really start grinding and you can't let that get to you.
