Not true.  It depends on the hybrid, and the shaft.  I've hit probably 20 hybrids over the last 5 years, and owned 5 different ones before I got my Adams 18* Idea Pro A12.  I can hit it low if I want to, probably due to the head shape (more like an iron), weight placement, and low-spin, low-torque shaft.  What's great about this club is that I can also hit it high--something that's really, really hard to do with a 2-iron off of the turf.

For the OP, I used to love my 1-iron and 2-iron.  Playing in windy conditions, I could hit low screaming draws that would carry 200-220 and run forever.  I had to swing really hard to do it though, and that gets tougher to do as I approach 40.  The hybrid is just so much easier to hit because of the hot face and lighter weight.

I just picked up a second Adams Idea Pro A12 in 23* to switch out with my 3-iron.  On windy days I'll probably still carry the 3i (and I still hit the 3i well), but the hybrid is much easier to get in the air and work both ways from the turf.

I still have a 2-iron (well, Mizuno MP-FliHi 2-iron) in my bag (at 46 y/o) and wouldn't be without it. Have a MacGregor 1025C 2-iron as well which goes pretty much as well as the FliHi but is currently gathering a bit of dust.

Never found a 'typical' hybrid that I get on with and I don't like their look cf. something more iron-like. Agree with the above (^^^) though - can't hit a high 2-iron like people might be able to do with an equivalent hybrid but the courses I play don't require it....fortunately.
