Which is the icing and which is the cake?

That's the question... When you shoot your best round ever and your first Eagle in the same round which one is the icing and which one is the cake? Well thankfully I currently find myself in the midst of that amazing scenario because on Sunday, August 19th I broke 90 for the first time and carded that first ever Eagle!

The round took place at the Par 75 - Cary Country Club where I shot an 88! (Front 42/Back 46)  My previous best round here was a 93. While I'm thrilled about the round what was even more exciting is I left a legitimate 4 strokes out there which means I could have been flirting with breaking 80!

As for the eagle it was on the Par 5 - #7.  I managed to hold the green with the fairway wood and the 12 footer dropped dead center for the 3!

This brought up the bad memory of my round 3 days ago with my brother and a friend.  We were both playing really well and end up both shooting our lowest scores to date.  Unfortunately, with sibling rivalry and all, he shot and 84 and I shot an 85.   And to top that, I reached one of the par 5's in two for the first time and had my first eagle opportunity ever.  I had a solid 12 footer that stood right on the lip of the cup and stayed up.  A strong wind would have blown it in the hole but atleast I still got a birdie.  However, the worst part is my brother literally on the next hole drove one of the shorter par 4's right onto the green with an excellent shot and sank his eagle putt.  So he bested my two times that day and royally pissed me off :)

Anyway, congrats on both of your achievements!

If that's Cary in Illinois, I've played there a few times. The huge hill in the center of the course makes for some high elevated tees we don't often see in the Prairie State. I recall one hole where the green is maybe 50 feet above the fairway?

Anyway, you always remember the first eagle, but lower rounds in the future will likely have you forget what you shot when you got it.

Yep that's the course in Cary, Illinois.  That hill does indeed make for some interesting holes.  The two that are the most interesting is the one you mentioned where the green is elevated way up.  The other, IMO, is the hole where you are teeing off downhill to the green.  It was actually my very first Eagle attempt I ever had.  It was my first time playing the course a few years ago and I drove the green! (Missed the damn putt though lol)

Congrats on your dual accomplishment. I'm a little compulsive, so I've always kept a separate scorecard where I indicated which holes on my clubs courses I'd parred/birdied/eagled in the past. I was happy to finally mark the eighth and final eagle down on that sucker. It took me five years to do it. The club at which I'm currenty playing has three courses. I've only been playing there since May, so I have yet to birdie all 54 holes. I only have one eagle since then, and I'm not sure I'll ever be able to say I've eagled all 12 par 5's. I'd settle for a few aces in their place, though. ;-)

Congratulations! An eagle is a big deal. Even for relative low handicap players, they don't come around all that often! Well done!

This is very true.  I've carded over 60 rounds in 2012... And haven't made an eagle in '12.
