Hi there. I´ve only been a member for 2 or 3 days and now is the time for introduction. I´m almost 32 years old, live in Akureyri Iceland and I´ve been playing golf for about 4 years. The first 2 years were just for fun but last year I joined my hometown club GA (Golfclub of Akureyri). I just LOVE golf and everything connected to the game of golf. That´s not nice over winter up here but when summer finally comes I can play golf 24/7. Believe me, it´s a special feeling to play golf in the midnight sun :) I´m very happy to have found this site and look forward to be a part if it. Golf on!

Hello from Canada. Although I'm Irish, so when growing up I could play till 11pm in the summer (4.30 in the winter , not quite 24/7 golf... must be awesome not to have to ditch work early mid week to try and get a round in. You could probably go home, have dinner, watch TV and then go I'd fancy a round at 9 in the evening .... awesome!!!

Nothing beats playing golf at midnight, knocking the ball towards the bloodread sky when very few people are playing the course. Very peaceful and quiet. I actually work nights but thats only 2 weeks a month. Soooo, the other 2 weeks of the month I play golf a lot :) When my wife goes to work at 08:00 in the morning and the kids are at kindergarden I show up at the course and usually get 18 - 36 holes in before I go pick the family up. But I always try to play midnight golf a few times over summer. Last weekend me and my friends played our annual Mini Arctic Open (our version of The Arctic Open) and started at 10:30. For 9 holes the weather was PERFECT and we got to play while the sun was setting. Then, after we ate our pizza at the clubhouse (it was closed but we sat down outside) the fog came in. So 9 holes played in fog too. It was fun though and I got a few thousand "krónur" in my wallet for the win (91 shots). Pretty nice.

Must be nice to play at 12:30. The closest we come down here is using the car's head lights to light up the range. Cant see the balls but you can hear them land. Still fun none the less, does'nt beat playing 24/7 though. enjoy it

Hello from Canada as well! I love golf (obviously). It is only my second year but I am addicted (at 16). I am about a 8-10 handicap now playing on a tour and at good courses.

Golf by the midnight sun... I'm in the wrong locale. Does Iceland market golf vacations?

    • Hello Golfing Buddies, It has been awhile since I posted but I am the Retired Old Man that asked for advice because I suffered two "T.I.A.'s about switching from playing right handed to playing left handed.  I purchased a Callaway Edge Left handed golf clubs. I changed the grips to oversize grips.  Well, two weeks ago and still at 79 years old, I shot a 44 and 47 on a small course in my hometown.  I am currently changing my shafts from regular flex to Senior flex.  So, you can see' it can be done! So, you other old timers; get with the program! Blessings to all of you. Retired Old Man (Terry Warner)

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
