[Paradox]

If you're like me and sweat like a beast...you know how funky your hats can start to look.  I read on some other forum after doing a search and saw someone mention this product:

Its a non-silicone water repellent that will also keep salt deposits from forming on your hats and visors.  Bonus is that rain will bead off and not soak your hat through.  After thoroughly cleaning a used hat or straight away with a new one...apply a coat to the dry hat and then let it dry..then apply a second coat so you make sure you haven't missed anywhere.

The cans of spray are 6.75 here in KY and are pretty big so you get a lot of use.  Anyway, its a handy little trick so I thought I'd pass it along for anyone that wasn't aware.

May have to try it. I hate trying to wash a hat after it gets all sweated up. Looses all it's shape and it's just never the same. I've got where I don't buy hats that are cotton, only the "dry-fit" type fabric, they do much better than cotton.

I have a couple of those cap cages that keep my hats from loosing their shape when I wash them. I have also started using scotch guard on my hats and it seems to be working very well, especially on my white hat.

I clean mine by hosing them down, spraying Simple Green on them, scrubbing with a scrub brush and hanging them on the fence to dry.  Works great, just did my 2011 St. Louis Cardinals World Series hat yesterday.

Try putting them on the top shelf of your dishwasher.  Works like a charm and it's gentle enough to let them keep their shape,  I perspire enough that I've sometimes had to spray a fabric cleaner like Shout on them before starting the dishwasher but that just guarantees that they will get clean.

Put two hats through the test this weekend after spraying them.  The hats will stay as dry as when you put them on...sweat doesn't even begin to soak into the outside of the hat.  I had all the normal sweat absorption the hat provided but both the bill and the rest of the outside were bone dry.  Love this little idea I found.

for the record..I tried the hat cages years ago..hated them.  I can't stand when hats get disformed AT ALL so I'm kind of OCD about them.

I wear unstructured hats, cotton twill or microfiber.  I just put them in the washing machine.  Works like a charm.  Hats get nasty after one or two rounds if you play in warm weather--nothing worse than putting a stinky, sweat-stained hat on your clean head.

I second the top rack of the dishwasher method. Works great on baseball style caps.

I just take them and rinse them in the shower and they are fine.  My Nike Dry fit cleans right up.  My Mizuno hat has similar material and is fine too.  My Red Sox hat is part wool and cotton and it fairs well too.
