Just giddy that I shot my first 89 at Long Hill Country Club in East Hartford CT a few days ago...

Not surprisingly, I think the facets of my game that allowed me to break 90 were my consistent putting, and straight drives.

Sure, I still had some skullers and grounders, and I remain a very light hitter... But my tee shots were more good than bad, and I must have had at least 3 one-putts...

An exhilarating day, and a valuable learning experience as well. "Hit it light, hit it right" remains my credo on the golf course.

Welcome to the.club. yep.. chipping and putting..quickest way to cut the score.

Thanks for the good wishes...

I guess the question is... what now? I think I could stand to work on getting more distance, though I don't want to muscle up and start hacking at everything... I could also stand to work on direction... All of my shots seem to go everywhere but straight...

Maybe time for a lesson or two?

Work on your full swing. Hitting more greens will drop your score more than anything else.

      We had a member of our senior club who developed a mental block on pulling the trigger. I played with him to see what the membership was talking about. I timed him a few times when he would get over the ball. 45 seconds. He knew he had a mental block and would chide himself, “Just hit it!” Once on the green he was okay and chipping was a bit better. It was painful to watch him struggle. Our “bandaid” was to put him in the last tournament  tee time with two understanding players. We should have suggested to him to take a break from our tournaments. I agree with the idea that when a player realizes they have a problem, the answer is to go fix it and not return until they are able to play at an acceptable pace.
