Unfortunately there is only a short amount of time left in the season here in Chicago. However, one of the local golf courses is offering a pass for the rest of the season. I plan on buying it today and using it as much as I can. I work a split shift and have 6 hours off during the day.

My question is, should I refrain from playing everyday? I can potentially play 18 holes everyday but just do not know if there are any negatives that can happen with playing too much.

My second question is, since I have been in Arizona the last 6 years could anyone around here let me know when the season has officially ended. I'm hoping to play into November to get my moneys worth.

I would think the only downside to playing every day would be physical.  It would be easy to develop tendonitis, blisters or any other number of afflictions.  Listen to your body.  If something is hurting, take a couple days off and let it heal.

Additionally, make sure you're not developing any bad habits.  If the swing starts to go awry, maybe have a 30-minute lesson with the pro to check it out rather than trying to "play through it."  However, I think it far more likely that playing every day will do good things for your swing, rather than bad.

Your second point was what I was most worried about. I usually spend a lot of time practicing especially after my swing breaks down on the course. I don't want to get in the habit of just going out and trying to fix it on the course just because I can. I haven't had any formal instruction so I usually just spend time on the range working out the kinks. I'll probably spend most of the time dropping a couple balls and treat it as a practice session. Thankfully the course is not busy during the week

Play as much as you want.

Far as whether there's a downside to playing every day, yeah, you'll eventually suffer from burnout...hopefully coinciding with your first snowfall.

There really isn't an "official" end to the season here. Some courses are open year round as long as there isn't snow on the ground, not sure about your course though. If we have another mild winter, your pass might turn out to be a good deal, assuming you can handle playing in cool temps.

I work 14 on 14 off and when I'm off I play 12 rounds or so a lot of times. Lately I've been cutting it back to probably 7-9 rounds on my 14 off because I was getting complacent with my swing, with my aiming, approaches, putts, everything and my scores were taking a beating. It gets in my head that I've done this everyday it should be automatic but it's not that way.

I play 2-3 days straight when I get back, then go to every other day for the rest of the time with a little practice in the back yard between rounds.
