I had been about 215 pounds and blood pressure was up to 130/95. Decided to reduce salty snacks, I got salt free nuts for snacking and eat less sodium based food. More importantly, for the last four weeks I had been hitting about 200 balls in the morning and 200 at night. Mainly, till I sweat heavily. Plus I take a practice swing for every swing. 300 quarter to 3/4 swings and 100 full swings with irons only per day. I do not get out of the address position between 5 swing sets, this also adds to the calorie burn. I tried this before, but prior to stack and tilt like swings, I would get sore before I could comfortably hit this many balls. The thing that keeps me going is the fact that I just want to hit those balls pure. :-O In these 4 weeks I drink more water and feel more hydrated, and lost almost 20 pounds. I am getting down to a 34 waist and only weigh 197 pounds, and my goal is to get down to 185 or less, I am only 5'10.5" so maybe 178? Or less? More importantly, my BP is now 115/85 with 65 beats per minute. The best part is that I don't feel like I am going to stop anytime soon. All other diets and exercise programs were so boring, I could not continue for more than 2 months. I already felt like stopping after 3 weeks typically. The goal of hitting pure, makes it really worth while. It feels really great when I do. Golf for health and weight reduction? :-) Seems to be working for me so far...

It's the diet, not the golf.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Yeah, but golf is inspiring me to do all the right things :-)

Keep doing what you're doing, good on you.

Keep doing the training and try walking some rounds also - a round of golf with a bag on your back can burn upwards of 1,000 calories. Regarding diet  - just watch your calorie intake - this is the primary determinant of long term weight loss. Nuts are good for you, but also high in calories, so you may want to taper them off a little. 100 grams of nuts can be 550 calories -

after a few months, you metabolism will slow down to match what you are eating and doing, hopefully byt hen you will be your ideal weight. But if not, you could try some more advanced strategies. I fast once a week (not a complete fast). Also, I cycle calories up and down, combining my high calorie days with my exercise days. I managed to get down to 6% bodyfat last year preparing for a fitness event - without cutting sugars, fats etc

Good luck

Down to 192 pounds. Feel really fit. I can actually carry 9 holes without getting tired, not level ground either. Blood pressure is still normal even though I am adding moderate amounts of salt back into my diet. Sweat twice a day hitting golf balls, 300 morning and 300 at night.

Even my wife and co-workers noticed that I am losing weight, 23 pounds lost so far.

Congrats!

I've lost 45 pounds over the last several months, with more to go, on a low carb diet (ref.: Gary Taubes' books). Trying to get to the point where I can walk 9, then 18.

Cool. I will take a look at Gary's book. Thanks.

Nice job!  Before I really started hitting the range regularly and hitting balls I was up to 160lbs.  My highest weight ever... And I was eating crappy foods.

Since this past March - I really started to watch what I eat (cut out a lot of carbs - and eat lean proteins)... And try to do 400 push ups a day, and hit the range for an hour a day.  It has helped me drop 12lbs of fat... And my percent body fat is much lower... I'm not sure the exact number - but I no longer have bitch tits when I take my shirt off.

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
