I'm reading the Stack & Tilt book at the moment, and have come across a bit I don't understand.

In the "First pieces" section it says:

"...these areas are the biggest differentiators between good players and bad.  Here they are:

1. Weight forward.

2. Left shoulder down

3. Hands in

4. Back leg straight

5. Arms straight

6. Butt under torso

"

I've read the whole "Hands in" section and I'm still not very clear as to what it means.

Thinking the words "hands in" while at the range yesterday, I was ending up with the club in a ninja pose at the height of my backswing, with both elbows bent and close to my body at the farthest extreme instead of a straight left arm.  I know it's not right but  I can't work out why from the paragraph in the book.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Look at the pictures in the book - they should clarify hands in.

But hands in is a gradual process - no technique in the golf swing is done abruptly - if you are right handed, think of your straight left arm as riding up your chest. Also, check your elbows - they should be pointed more "in" than "out" at address. I like to have my arms against my ribs at the beginning of the swing. In the backswing, the left arm "rides" the chest as the right elbow remains close as it bends and points more downwards than out with the elbows remaining  as close as possible (minimize the space between the two). Again, look at the pictures in the book. Better yet, get the new DVD's.

    • I agree with @dennyjones, a suspension of some meaningful duration would be better than getting bounced from the Tour. They might consider experimenting each week. It might generate a bit of interest. I like the idea of a visible shot clock. If a player and their caddy can’t decide on a strategy and pull the trigger in XX seconds (30? 45? 60?), one stroke penalty. Give each player 2 resets a round. The clock starts when the last player to hit’s ball stops moving. Other pace ideas could be used every couple events until a consensus is reached to adopt or ditch an idea.
