I'm a bit sceptical of these without even hitting them yet. Usually I like a ball that I can "cut" with my fingernail. These covers seem pretty hard. But, if Tiger uses them...

Well, upon second inspection, forget what I said above.

Geez Nike makes a good ball! I didn't have too many opportunities to truly test spin control 'cause our greens are just getting over being punched, but the platinum certainly feels good coming off the clubs. I'm a little hesitant to use these full-time cause I know Nike is really puching the limits on ball comformity. I don't want to get used to this thing if it won't be legal in a year or two.

Yeah, Looking at Tiger now days sometimes you cant be proud to play the ball he has. And didnt i just read that he didnt make this weeks cut.

I am usually a Titleist ball guy.

I don't really care who plays the ball, it's all about putting for me. I run out of my Nike One's and picked up a sleeve of Prov1 and Prov1x to "try them out". Prov1 was close to the same feel, but shorter on full swing, but prov1x felt terrible off the putter, keeping up with the distance of Nike's. By the way - that's the One Black I'm talking about. I'll try platinum as soon as I get my chubby fingers on it

I bought a sleeve of these last Saturday to try out. Honestly, I can't believe Tiger plays these "rock" hard balls. I'm sure technically they're better than TopFlight XL's, but as far as feeling goes off a hit..horrible. I can't see anyone who plays a 3 or 4-piece marshmellow play the Platinum ONE.

Also the dimple pattern is unappealing to me for some reason. I guess I'm just used to uniformity in dimple design and not a bunch of different sized dimples on the ball. It gave me a "cheap" look to it..just me.

I ended up giving the other 3 guys in my group a xmas gift and gave them one each..told them this is the ball Tiger plays..oohh's and aahh's..lol

If the Platinum is this hard are the Nike BLACK or GOLD any different?

With his swing speed over 120 I doubt it's rock hard for him. Like the Pro V1x you need to have a higher swing speed to get better results out of it

I was just surprised it didn't have that "soft" layer/feel to it..even the PV1X had a softer feel. I can't see how the Plat One could be fun to putt with either being harder than those other balls.

    • Interesting that it's no penalty, but then again, I can't imagine someone would purposefully put their foot out there in this situation or one like it.  And then there was the time someone purposefully deflected his own ball during a major, but that's very different too. The only time I can recall a ball I hit hitting another player or their equipment was ages ago -- over a decade and a half ago.  I had a 3' putt for an 89 and someone (a random pairing, not someone I knew) decided it was a good time for goaltending practice.  That wouldn't fall under this rule, though (and it wasn't in a tournament anyway). Thanks for continuing to share these, Dave!  I always find these interesting.
    • Day 51 (29 Apr 26) - Worked with a few of the golf team kids plus my grandson (he’s too young for the team as it’s middle-high school age and he’ll be 10 Sat).  He put on a small hitting clinic (hitting off the same tees as the rest of the boys) - one of the older kids called him a “coach”.  Worked in a few shots for myself - had the light bag: driver, 7w, 4 - 6 - 8 - Pw - Sw (DCI 962’s except the Sw a 981) and Zebra putter….got in some great tee shots, a couple of recovery and an awesome up and down for bogie: 55 yds out, hitting 4th shot due to 2nd getting tangled in limbs - see the window I need to hit for a tight spinner with the Sw - nail it to a postage letter distance from the cup for a tap in bogie….my kind of practice.
    • Day 21, April 29.  Before going to work this morning, I worked in my indoor practice room for 20 minutes.   This was entirely 6-iron shots with the usual step.  Video yesterday showed me that I'm still straightening my trail leg too much (leading to the backswing length issue I've been working to fix), so I focused on not doing that in my rehearsal swings.
    • Exactly correct.   I was absolutely certain about the penalty (none here), but the bit about where they play from can be really confusing the first time you read it.  In my big paper rule book, i used colored highlighters to make it clear.  Good thing I did, at the Cascades there's little to no cell service, so using the rules app on the phone wasnn't possible.
    • Taking a crack it, but looks pretty clear. 11.1  Ball in Motion Accidentally Hits Person or Outside Influence. a. No Penalty to Any Player If a player’s ball in motion accidentally hits any person (including the player) or outside influence: There is no penalty to any player. This is true even if the ball hits the player, the opponent or any other player or any of their caddies or equipment. Reading further down it looks like they have to play the ball as it lies. No replay from the previous spot.
