I started playing golf after an almost 20 year layoff back in 2010.  I went to the range and hit my old driver, a Yonex ADX 300, and it seemed to launch way too high.  I decided to upgrade and I wanted a club with a very low loft.  I went to ebay and bought an Adams long drive head because I couldn't find anything in stores with a super low loft.  The loft is 6.5 degrees.  I had a stiff shaft put in at golf galaxy.

My question is:  Does the long drive head take away distance?  I think I remember someone saying the faces were thicker and gave less, because the long drivers would destroy them otherwise.  I hit the driver pretty good, but I am definitely not a long driver.  My swing speed is between 105-110.  I can carry it about 265-270.  I just want to know if I can get more distance from a traditional head.  Also, the launch angle seems to be fine with a good high launch.

I heard that, i believe there is less of a spring effect in long drive competitions, but also they are having more mass in there driver as well. So while they might lower the smash factor, they might increase distance due to still having uncanny high swing speeds and more massive clubheads.

Look at what happen to Phil, Callaway was messing around with those composite materials, and phil cracked his driver a couple times. I guess they went to light :p

It also feels a little heavy.  Anybody know what the weight difference is between the Adams 9064ld head and a standard head?

You'd have to weigh it. The last one I had weighed 203g.

203g for the head or total club?  If it was for the head, what was your total club weight?

That was just the head. I never weighed the whole club.
