Iron Shaft Help!!!

C-Taper has a pretty dead feel as well, nothing like the Tour. But the ball flight is awesome.

I agree with the last part. I agree with the first part if you try to play too strong a flex, but if you get the right setup they feel nicer than anything I've ever hit and have great control. I had the X flex soft stepped at first in my test club, then briefly tried the X straight in for about a round, and the results were terrible. The half flex makes a huge difference in results and makes the shaft perform great on all kinds of shots, and I have the swing speed to hit about anything in all my other clubs. I play stout X flexes and lowish lofts in my woods and load them easily but the C taper is built to handle powerful swings. Justin Rose and others on tour tend to favor the S+ flex despite hitting X in everything else and swinging over 115mph with the driver. Even Furyk isn't a long hitter, but still a tour pro and he went with the R+ and I believe he shot 59 with them.

They have a profile to them that's unlike a lot of others. This isn't a shaft that caters to "tweener" X flex types in the market. Kim Braly has hinted that they play about a half flex stiffer than the tours, and I'd certainly agree based on my usage.

The C tapers are meant for those who seriously load the shaft and often have fast tempos. Personally I'm fairly smooth but I have a very fast and high launching swing without excessive spin. Even if you can hit the X in the tours comfortably, I'd think the S+ tapers would still play a bit stiffer if anything. Personally I figured I could handle about an S+ with certainty based on my SS numbers and distances, but I thought I might be able to go a bit stiffer because I hit the ball high, so I got the X soft stepped because I wanted the heavier weight. I don't doubt for a second that the S+ would be sufficient for me though, but I'm not buying another set and tossing aside my best asset to find out.

I'd also like to mention that I love them in my 3 iron through pitching wedge and get plenty of spin in my short clubs for my needs, but I went with the KBS wedge shaft in my 54 and 60 which is a little known but very nice shaft. It's unique from the tours and the Hi Rev, and comes in a nifty black finish as well. I didn't compare it apples to apples in the same head vs the tapers, but I do have one C taper wedge shaft left over... But I like them how they are for now.

I agree with the shaft flex being incredibly important with these shafts. I have seen with many shafts you can "power" through a flex that is a bit strong for you. With the C-Tapers I have found it really isnt something you can do. You really have to do your homework and make sure you are swinging your proper flex. I have seen many that fall into the Reg/Reg+ flex but just cant bite the bullet and "go down" to a Regular flex...

Reshafting is never cheap. It's just that some combinations are even more expensive than others.

I have seen many that fall into the Reg/Reg+ flex but just cant bite the bullet and "go down" to a Regular flex...

Actually not so much as you think. An interview with the guy who designed the shafts, basically the C-Taper has the same load profile for ever flex, the difference is the shaft gets heavier to give it more stiffness. Now if you go to Dynamic Golf, they change the load profile for each stiffness, it helps keep a more consistent weight. It's just two different philosophies, but I would say KBS you can get way with being off on the stiffness a bit more than the Dynamic Gold because they retain the same bend profile.

For example. I was fitted for KBS tour x-stiff. Actually C-Taper was a better choice, but the difference was negligible in my mind and the price difference wasn't. I tried the stiff and the x-stiff in the C-taper. Honestly the only difference was the stiff flighted a bit higher, and spun a bit more. When I mean a bit, it wasn't astronomical, something like 10-15% more spin. It was just more than I needed, and probably would have given me trouble in windy conditions. C-taper was probably another 10-15% less spin than the KBS tour.

So, it isn't that drastic, being off one flex. That is the nice thing about KBS, they keep the same bend profile, so it gives some leeway. The only problem though, it might shut out some golfers from playing that shaft.

I have seen several interviews as well and Im completely going by feel but when I played with flex for the C tapers it really came down to feel more than anything else. I felt the shaft feel simply died when going stiffer or too stiff in flex. Again this is my feel, my swing, and my experiences.

@wutiger. I have a somewhat moderate swing tempo and 77-80 mph swing speed with 8 and 7 iron. I have Cobra Amp Cell irons with the made for 90 dynalite shafts in stiff. I think I would benefit from regular shaft flex. I bought a set of pulled Tt Xp 95 shafts in regular flex 370 tip. I looked up Amp Cell irons and they are listed as universal as far as shaft tips go. This should be a relatively easy re shafting. I guessy question is how different a feel will these be and will I be able to get a better ball flight and distance with these new shafts. Thanks
