Why best players still want a little forgiveness?

Sorry for this stupid question.

I was just curious. I believe that tour players can hit whatever clubs (from cavity backs to pure blades) given to them in any condition.

But why even the best players in the world appreciate a little more forgiveness?

are you asking why they use Cavity back irons sometimes? They will use them for long irons because its easier to get the ball in the air from difficult spots.  They may launch a little higher, thus land a little softer to help hold the fast, firm greens.

Yeah, I just wondering why some of them still use cavity back/game improvement irons. I thought pro players supposed to play classic blades. :)

well that used to be the case...then pro players stopped being macho and decided to take advantage of technology and engineering to make shots as easy as possible..when they hit those long irons..they aren't trying to do that much with them(sans tiger under the trees last weekend) so they opt for more forgiveness and better trajectory for stopping power...only makes sense.

Because the winner's purse is usually over $1 Million, and can be decided by a single shot.  If there was that much money riding on it, I would want to play something that bettered my chance of not losing a shot somewhere because I was too macho to play a cavity back.

Good answer.  I remember how much crap Ray Floyd took when he took a 5-wood to Augusta and decimated the Masters field with his par 5 play.  Took a lot of crap but shortly thereafter lots of guys started carrying 5-woods.
