mvmac...You know there's no doubt that a good backswing is one big thing that's out of the way in producing a good impact position...but good backswings are few and far between and just because you have one doesn't mean you'll get to a good impact position...

Right it doesn't guarantee good impact alignments but it can have a positive "domino" effect and make it easier for the golfer when they do focus on their downswing pieces.

I was just trying to show that the downswing is critical to impact and the backswing is more of a positional thing....I know many think the oppsite....There are may ways to get to a good impact position but the downswing is key IMHO...

I agree the downswing is very important and for some players their downswing trouble originates on the backswing. For those players working on the downswing first is a waste of time when the backswing is so out of whack.

I do think there are golfers/instructors that get too caught up in how the backswing "looks". If someone makes a change, there has to be a good reason, the why has to have some effect on the downswing. I agree it doesn't make sense to hit some position because it fits what the backswing is "suppose" to look like.

I firmly believe that.   When I hit a bad shot, it is usually because my back swing was incomplete/poor and I tried to compensate and fail.

    • Day 375 - Got a good session in, mostly partial swings focused on the finish, but worked up to full swings. Finished with some lag putting.
    • Day 198: went to a simulator for an hour. Played blackjack National and shot 77. Then worked on backswing stuff for a bit, and it went pretty well.
    • Day 123 - 2025-01-31 Busy day building a website, some images, and doing Evolvr. So… some mirror stuff while waiting on some things a few times throughout the day.
    • Day 14: 1/31/25 Plenty of putting practice today - early morning, at lunch and this evening.
    • Day 11 (31 Jan 25) - Played in the Friday men’s group today.  Had some really good swings with the  Feruga shafted driver, pretty solid with the putter (not the AI One Milled but the broomstick style NMG Ab) and okay wedge game.  Was a day of up and down pars  (5 of the 6 front side pars were such).  Finished with a 40 on the front.  Then the wheels got wobbly on the back - made a mess on a number of holes closing with a 49 by trading those 5 up and down pars for 5 doubles on the back….while it was a struggle to not get frustrated, it was just a reminder that the game can spin on a single shot.
