Well.....I've just started to begin playing golf again after about a 5-6 year lay off....I have never purchased an expensive driver, set of clubs or anything and would like to purchase a decent one. I tend to slice the ball more than I would like right now and I drive it around 250 yards. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of driver I should get? Any thoughts on me purchasing a Titleist 907 D1 driver? A guy is selling a used one for around $150. Thanks, Seth

If you are in the US, go to your local Golfsmith / Golf Galaxy / Dicks Sporting Goods / etc. and try out a bunch of different ones

The Dicks near me has a range simulator. I recommend trying a bunch of drivers there. Also, with $150, you could buy a newer, more forgiving driver than the Titleist.

I just upgraded my Titleist 905 to a 910 D2. Picked it up second-hand from Golfsmith. Hit it on the simulator and like the swingspeeds and distances. Used it for the first time this week (2 rounds) and hit some really nice, down the middle drives - with a pro type trajectory (9.5). Its adjustable, but right now I have everything at neutral setting. Don't really need to mess with it - doesn't even look like it has been hit before I got it. Has a precision x stiff driver (my swing speed avg was 92 mph). They even threw in the wrench in the deal.

But I've got to say ----I love my new (slightly used) 910 D2 driver from Titleist.

This is the correct answer.  All of the major manufacturers make good equipment.  The most expensive driver may not be the best for you simply because of the shaft performance relative to your swing characteristics.

For example, I recently hit several and ended up buying a Ping G20 because I hit it best -- likely due to the shaft being the best "fit" for my swing.  As an added bonus, newer equipment is now available so the G20 was only $200.  Go to the local Dick's (where they'll have a simulator) and try a few out.

What's in the Bag:

3-wood: Taylormade Burner 15*

Just say no.

A high capper doesn't need a Tity Driver and not one 3 models down for $150, and not one that was one of TItleist's worst models -- besides too much $$$.

My Titleist with the right shaft would be fine for a high hcper.  No reason for him not to hit it (mine cost $150).   It is very forgiving, big sweet spot.  Why not? I've been using the 905 for the last couple of seasons and it is also a very good driver.    To OP, I'd recommend you look into the 910 with the right shaft - has adjustability. Would skip the 907.

I've seen the new Adams Super S already discounted to $229, the old Adams Driver like the 9088 is less than $100 new, the Adams Speedline Tech with a $275 shaft is selling on ebay for $125 new - the Speedline Tech or Super S  would be a good fit if the OP is a smoother swing type.  Then there is last year's RBZ. The 910 is a fine club. Agree. He should hit it, too.

Well the other day I went to Dick's Sporting Goods and hit a few different clubs. I tried the RBZ first but just didn't like the feel of the club. I tried a few others and ended up getting the Taylormade Burner 3.0 despite the thread on here. I hit it the best and was the most consistent with it. I averaged around 250 yards on the drive and was consistently near the middle of the fairway. Now if I could only have a little bit of time to go to the range or play a round.

Yes go to a store and go on the simulator. Numbers given will help you pick the right driver.

Shaft and loft are to important not to check it out first.

If you got the numbers you can always go on ebay and look after a club with those specs.

However this is not a nice way to use the store.
