I hit the range up for the first time since last fall the other day and about 90% of my shots with my driver and 3 wood were pull hooked with very low ball flight. I can definitely feel something is wrong with my swing because it just feels very uncomfortable. My stock shot is a draw, especially with my long irons/wood. I cant even remember the last time i hit a fade/slice with a wood.

I had this problem off and on last year. One day i could hit every fairway off the tee and the next time out i would pull hook every tee shot. It feels like i may be coming over the top too much (especially because once i start hooking the ball i really try to make sure my swing isnt too flat which would explain why im coming over the top (if that is actually the problem)

I know its hard to tell without seeing a video but as soon as i hit the range with a friend i will post some videos but in the meantime i was wondering if anyone else has had a problem similar to this and how they fixed it? Its just very irritating because usually when i hit a bad shot i know right away what i did wrong but for some reason once this starts happening i just have to leave my woods in the bag until another day. (similar to the dreaded shanks )

Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem.  It just started about 2-3 weeks ago. I don't know how to fix it, but I hope the others do.

Usually, I think, that would be the beginning of the year overswing. Probably not getting the weight forward enough and swinging harder that with other clubs, resulting in the pull hook.

Hard to say what it is exactly without seeing it though.

Driver: 10.5* callaway Razr Hawk Tour - 350 yards(usually into the wind, it can be windy here. at least 400 with a little wind behind me)

Hybrids: 2 and 3 callaway Hybrid razr tour (312 and 287 respectively)

Irons: 3i-10i callaway forged standard length(278, 263, 250, 235, 221, 213, 201, 190)

Wedges: callaway jaws cc 52* 12 approach, 56* 16 sand, 60* 13 lob (0-185)

Odyssey Black tour #9 putter(5 ft, i'm always at least within 5 feet on my approach shot)

I wonder who on this forum is a PGA tour pro, disguised as a normal player..

Yeah that would make a lot of sense but since its been happening off and on throughout the last couple years it makes me wonder if its actually something with my swing mechanics. I cant wait for it to stop raining here so i can get back out on the range and get some videos of my swing.

I was looking through my computer and found a swing video from last year. Its with an iron so i dont know how much help it will be for this subject but i thought id let you know!

Here's what I'd recommend:  http://thesandtrap.com/t/61376/5sk-video-thread/30_30#post_807110

Super easy drill ... just flex your right toes up off the ground during your swing.  I struggle with ugly snap hooks with my driver sometimes as well, and I learned from my instructors that the cause was me kicking my right knee out towards the ball on my downswing.  What I need to do is bank the right foot more and keep that heel down.  This drill basically prohibits you from kicking that knee out.

Obviously, you could have a different cause, but for me this works like a charm.  It couldn't hurt to give it a shot.

    • I mean there has to be some thought. For eg., something like 'soft knees and wrists' at set up and maybe a dynamic 'left arm to chin' as a trigger to start DS. I have these one or two anchor thoughts and have served me well. In fact, my wildest swings are the one where I have no thoughts or if I forget to walk thru my anchor thoughts. In contrast my best rounds are where I am consistent with the anchor thoughts.    OTOH, if I am running my entire half hour lesson (hypothetical) with some pro that I had last Saturday or whatever before every swing then I'm probably in trouble before I even get over the ball.
    • Two bits. Bit 1 The NCAA's appeal of Brendan Sorsby being granted a temporary injunction will not be heard until February, so there will be nothing to prevent Sorsby from playing the full season and potential CFP.  Bit 2 The Big Ten Conference will hold a meeting and is expected to ban all of its athletic programs from playing Texas Tech in the regular season. Georgia has done the same. The SEC will meet to consider a similar ban. Fellow Big 12 members TCU and Kansas State are spearheading a similar ban, but the conference charter might not allow it. Meanwhile, Big 12 athletic directors are meeting this week to explore what options the conference might have.
    • No, but I'm also in disagreement that golfers have no thoughts over the golf ball, and/or don't ever think I've met someone I truly believe is thinking nothing but "target" or something on most shots.
    • StuM,  I have, in the past, added a left handed club. (Ususally a 7 iron) However, I usually take a stroke penalty and move the ball to where I want it.  I play for fun and in a pinch can use theback side if my club if I don't want the penalty stroke.    RetiredOldMan,  Terry
