Painting the Crown of a Driver/Fairway Wood

so my 3 wood is pretty beat to hell, i was wondering if any of you have experience painting the crown of a wood?  i was thinking of just taping off everything else but the crown, scuffing it with some very light grip sandpaper and blasting it with some matte finish spray paint?  since i was thinking this is the way to do it, im assuming that its all wrong.

Sounds about right.  Keep in mind, it could change the swing weight.  I would get as much of the old paint off if you can.

Could that tiny bit of spray paint really affect the swing weight that much?

No, I haven't... To be honest I wouldn't know what a swing weight machine looked like unless it was labeled as such...

Wouldn't really worry about it. Probably would not change it much if it did. I just mentioned it so you know.
