i recently purchased a new iron set with 3 and 4 hybrids,

and although i dont really have a hard time swinging long irons, decided to get the hybrids.

should my swing for the hybrids be identical to how i would swing an iron?

I hit my hybrids as I hit my irons since they are an iron-replacment club.  I get better ball flight, distance, and consistency with my hybrids if I take a divot with them just as with my irons.

Yes the ball is on the ground so some decent is good.  Weight is still forward and lead wrist is flat at impact.

The day I read on this forum, a couple years ago I suppose, that hybrids should be hit with a slight downstroke just like irons was the day that I started hitting them well. My play on par 5's and long par 3's was instantly improved. Place the ball in your stance as you would the equivalent iron.

If this question is in reference as to whether or not you should think about taking/intentionally not taking a divot... I will say I routinely take divots with my woods, so don't be afraid to with a hybrid.

More than just hybrids. Try it on FWs if the "sweep" swing isn't working. I was having major consistency problems with FWs last fall and early this year, and decided to try a different model as a cure.

The golf shop fitting rep was a former local course pro, and he had me put my hands more forward and ball back a little, and hit down on the ball . Started hitting the ball much better.

I bought a new 3W while in the shop, but I decided tried his set-up changes on my current woods. Started hitting ball much better - shots have a tail sometimes, but at least the tail shots end up near where I was aiming.

By hitting down, I don't mean pound it like a PW... just a smooth downward clip into the ball.

(I've never hit the new 3W outdoors, so I'll probably return it for store credit.)

Focus, connect and follow through!

Yes, take a divot. You can hit 3-woods by taking a divot as well. I Unless its teed up on a par 4, were you might want to hit with a bit of an upswing, i would say hit with a descending blow. Even if its a shallow one, very small divot. I like it because it gives a bit more error in hitting the ball first.

    • I have nothing to add other than I freaking love her swing and I think she's hot as hell and some of my golfing buddies disagree so I fought them
    • I’m not sure I agree. It’s just what the majority find more entertaining. Most people prefer women’s gymnastics over men in the Olympics. How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.

    • If you walk up to a food/drink kiosk at Magic Kingdom and ask the person for a cup of "magic water" they will give you a small cup of Sprite for free. About 3 fingers worth. They don't sell alcohol at MK anymore so I go over to one of the courses while she hangs out there.
