  1. 1. Do you try to work the ball on your approach shot? (Irons Only)

    • Yes, I always try to shape/work my iron shots.

    • Sometimes, I can sometimes work the ball as intended.

    • No, I just try to get it on the green.

    • No, I just want to make solid contact.

I can, and will try, if the shot feels right. Sometimes just standing over a ball I get a good feeling that I can hit it right to left to the front left pin. I am somehow to hit a straight ball pretty consistently, so unless the need is there and the feeling is there, I just aim at a certain spot and hit it there.

I will judge my rounds much more by the quality of my best shots than the acceptability of my worse ones.

it all depends on the situation... whatever the course gives me... if i got trouble that i need to avoid... ill 'try' to work it the way i need it... doesnt always happens but when it does its great...
it also depends on my tendencies for the day... the day before yesterday i was drawing the ball even when i tried to fade it... today everything was going too straight no matter how much i opened or closed my face/stance

The only time when i work the ball with my irons is when im behind something or i left myself with a bad angle to the green itself. I never try to work the ball into pin locations, for instance. Im just not that good. Except for that i play my natural shot on nearly all iron shots. I dont try to work the ball out of the rough at all.

Same here. Do what you know you can do. Just play your game and you'll find that your score will keep dropping.

I typically go for a straight shot but I do like to play a cut shot quite a bit. I can play it rather consistently and it has been successful for me. I never really try and play a draw and I will only try and play one, or a hook, if I really need to go around something.

Normally I try to hit the ball straight, except:

* When I need to go around an obstacle
* When I need a low punch - draw or fade - to get under trees. I practice this one.
* On holes where you have a hell-hazard on one side which you need to avoid at all costs. It's a matter of percentages: If a hole has an OB-over the cliff adventure to the left, I try to fade it away from danger. If the fade turns to a slice , I can still get a bogie. If a planned straight ball goes left , however, I'm OB (and extremely angry).
* Around the green, I have good luck hitting slight cut shots with wedges. Again, I practice these.

Basically, I can work the ball away from danger OK; I'm iffy in hitting magic fades and draws to set up those one-foot birdie putts. I mainly try to get it into the center of the green.
