I am looking into purchasing my first set of clubs. There is a local classified selling a full set, with a bag/balls/tees for only $40. If any of you have had any experience or know someone who did, could you let me know? I am not looking for an AMAZING set of clubs, but I just don't want to get crap either! I am just looking for a set to get me thru my first few seasons, then if it's a sport I want to get into further I'll upgrade. So if the Dunlop EXD's will get me thru a season or 2 I'll gladly take them.

Thanks so much with any advice that y'all might have!

I don't know anything about Dunlop golf clubs, but if you are completely new to golf and are looking for minimum investment then $40 is hard to beat, even if the clubs are bad.  Personally, if you have alot of friends that golf, then ask them if they have a spare set of clubs that you could borrow.  No investment!  And if you really enjoy the sport then I would get fitted and invest in a good set of clubs that fit your game.

Thanks for the insight! I have been borrowing clubs from my buddy for about a year now, (essentially using 1 set, and a few add-ins, between the both of us) and am thinking its time to get my own set (for the comfort of both of us, it's real awkward to see 2 dudes out there sharing clubs ha ha), but still am not ready to go all out, and get a fitted pair or anything...plus i still stink at playing ha ha. But i think its a great price, and will probably pick them up.....unless anyone else out there says they are absolutely horribly clubs and will probably turn into shrapnel after the first hit!

Thanks again, for the reply!

The set probably sold new for about $150 new so it's not a bad deal at $40.  If they fall apart at the end of the season your loss is minimal.

Keep in mind these clubs are a starter set so you might not get the forgiveness, distance or control that you would from a better set but they should be good enough for you to decide if you like golf enough to make a bigger investment.

If you have a high swing speed, don't be surprised if the heads fall off the clubs, I've seen it happen a lot at the range with these types of sets.

If you decide you want to spend a bit more, you can look at callawaygolfpreowned.com, globalgolf.com are good places to look for pre-owned clubs.

You can also check out golf stores that sell used iron sets, or check ebay or garage sales.  Around here there are also stores called Play It Again Sports that sells used clubs.  If you stay with major manufacturers like Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland, Taylor Made, Mizuno, Ping and you'll be fine.  Recently one guy I played with was given a set of Pings for free from a friend.  The next week a guy I played with bought Tommy Armor 845 iron set from his neighbor for $10.

Be careful with eBay if you're right handed as there are a lot of fake clubs out there.  General rule for eBay or any online reseller, if the deal seems to good to be true, they are probably fake clubs.  Companies like Ping, Titleist, Mizuno do not allow their authorized dealers to advertise discounted pricing, so if you see huge discounts on new clubs from those brands, stay away.

    • Day 5: did a stack session. Did some slow swings between sets, working on hands down.
    • So, I might have to get out of the C-Taper golf shaft. I have an older Mizuno with a KBS Tour shaft in. I was messing around with closing my eyes and feeling where the weight of the club is being felt at. The C-Taper was all in my fingers. I didn't feel much of anything of the club head or shaft of the club. It felt super heavy in my hands. The KBS Tour I could feel a weight further away from my hands, out in space.  The Mizuno weights 2 grams more, but is about 2-3 swing weights lighter than my current irons.  So, yea. I am thinking I might sense the club better with maybe a less stout golf shaft and maybe a lighter swing weight. Probably more to do with the golf shaft. I am thinking the feeling of the weight out in space is more of the shaft loading more easily.
    • Day 25 (2 Apr 26) - Worked on green side chips at the course before helping with the school golf tournament today.  Worked on low flighted spinners to get solid hop and stops.
    • Day 227 4-2 Chest and hip turn with flow drill. Trying to get a rhythm to the hip movement/less segmented feeling.
    • A bit back at it tonight. I just wanted to add in the feel of a softer left arm through out the backswing. This helps me hinge the club. I make sure I am not bending it a ton, but not straightening it. It helps feel like I can keep the club in front of me more and lift the club up sooner.
