She hasn't played with the men half the time this year. The Sony Open has been it, yes?

This year, yes. In the past year (since last July) it looks like she's played with the men 4 times, out of 11. Ok, so it was a bit of an overstatement. Here's her performance, though:

July '06 - WD after 9th hole in second round, 10 strokes above the cut. August '06 - T-26, given two-stroke penalty for grounding club in the sand. September '06 - Dead last - missed cut by 14 strokes in European Masters. Also, finished dead last in 84 Lumber Classic - MC by 13 strokes. (Both against men). October '06 - 17th (out of 20 players) in the Samsung World Championship. November '06 - Second to last, 27 shots off the lead (against the men) in the Casio World Open. January '07 - Missed cut by 14 strokes in the Sony Open. May '07 - 14 over after 16 holes - WD's in the Ginn Tribute. (on her way to a possible 88 if she'd continued). June '07 - Finished last among those who made the cut in the LPGA Championship. Also, WD's from the US Women's Open after being 17 over after 27 holes. (If you guys haven't figured yet, I'm one of those who's really against Wie. Mainly because she's trying to play with the men - as if the LPGA wasn't enough - when she can't even beat that. Granted, it's probably B.J.'s fault, so...well, we'll see after she turns 18, I suppose. Unhappily, I think she'll end up hating the game, discover college life, disappear into a world of alcohol and drugs, do a controversial shoot for a men's magazine, and then up on Oprah five years later begging and pleading her apologies for what she's done. And then when it's all done she'll have life lessons to teach everyone else.) I think I'm paraphrasing someone else who said this a few weeks ago, but I don't remember who. If they could step forwards, go ahead and take the credit for it, I guess.

This year, yes.

Right. But you previously said:

And she plays with the men half the time.

You can be against the gal if you want, but try to keep the facts straight. Arguing against the gal with bad facts just makes you look bad.

I stand corrected, and I admitted I was wrong, okay? Let's move on.

I think you're misunderstanding what I'm saying.

I'm trying to make you more effective at defending your "I don't like Michelle Wie" by correcting obvious errors. Just as I don't go around saying "I like Tiger Woods because he's won every major this year!" Just trying to help, and to also make sure we've got good information out there...

Ok, then, I get what you're going for, then.

(But at any rate, let's get back to topic...although by now Wie and Pressel being paired together was a while ago.)

    • Day 27 - 2026-01-16 Played 18 with some of the usual "too many voices" going on when I'm working on swing stuff. Fun to get out in great bay area winter weather.
    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.
