One of the things I've really come to love about this game is the great times it generates with people you love. I started playing golf 3 years ago with my brother, mother, and father. To this day, it is something we share together as a family on a weekly basis. I moved out a year back, but it something that keeps us close. Today, I had the priviledge of playing 9 holes with my girlfriend and her parents which have really became a 2nd family to me. Although, the putts weren't falling for any of us, the day turned out beautiful and we were able to spend quality time together. I think that is what makes the game do great, it is a social experience at times, a chance to just hang out with friends and family and enjoy the moment, but it can also be incredibly competitive game, or even a quiet intimate experience with yourself. I guess I am stating something that is already obvious, I love golf, but It always amazes me how I can go out and discover this all over again.

I am right there with you buddy, as are 99% of the posters and readers of TST I assume. One of my favorite things are the anticipation the night before my round and the morning prep! I love sitting outside with a hot cup of coffee at 6AM, having a few smokes or a good cigar and I'll just sit there and clean my clubs and shoes and turn on some iHeart or TuneIn radio (nice and low so as to not drown out the sound of the birds). The sun, the dew/mist and a clear blue sky on a 75° Saturday morning is all I need to make me forget about any troubles.

Then, the drive to the course where I rock out to 100.7 WMMS (Cleveland) and get the thirst for birdies and beer going!

I'm beyond addicted to this game....

Yesterday, I was explaining to a good friend that golf is like crack to me. It's what I think about most of the day. I can't get enough of it. Even if I play poorly, all I want to do is tee it up again. I could easily play 36-54 holes a day, 7 days a week, time and money permitting.

Good analogy lol...I agree with the addiction.  Every time a finish a round, I'm always bummed out I don't have a few more holes because I am either playing well and want it to continue or I am playing like crap and want to work out the swing.  When I'm not playing; I'm reading, watching, thinking golf.  There is always "more" that can be done and that's why I keep going and going.  Unfortunately, my work product suffers because of my golf addiction.

I'm not sure what the clinical definition of addiction or obsession is, but how I feel about the game (and what others are posting) has got to fit. I have to force myself to do all the other things in my life - whether they are chores or things I used to really enjoy - because golf has completely taken over. In my younger days, I was around a lot of the typical things in life that get people in trouble. But I'd never had a problem with any sort of addiction, so this is kind of new to me. At the same time, if there is an addiction to something, why not a game that is for the most part healthy.

The feeling of hitting a clean shot and watching the ball flight is incredible. First, the tiny bit of anxiety at address, then there's the feel of the impact and at about the same time the sound registers. You immediately see that the line is right and as the ball continues to climb, you know your distance is going to be very close. Even though you know it'll be on the green you don't know how close to the hole. So you stand there watching the ball drop because it's part of the "high". For me, that feeling lasts while I'm putting my club away and driving or walking to the hole. It doesn't happen as frequently as I'd like, but it's great when it does. Of course, it's soon replaced by a bit of anxiety over whether or not you can one-putt...
