Hi all

I'm off to the algarve, vilamoura, next month and looking to play some of those stunning courses.

the problem is I'm going with my brother in law who is a non handy cap holder.

he isn't bad, would play of 26/28 to my mind but I'm looking for course recommendations in the area where handy cap certs aren't required.

thanks in advance, any advice appreciated

Vale do Lobo - Ocean Course, Almancil

BTW i own a house in marbella spain, we get allot off courses where a hdc of 20 is asked for.

But they let all greenfee players play just because they need the money. So there not that hard

to let you play i think.

The only place i was asked for hdc registration was at Valderama.

have fun out there.

I've been on a couple of organised trips and never had to have a handicap certificate.

I know the Old Course used to ask but the hard times may mean they don't any longer.

The cheapest ways to get on the course are to either book it with your accommodation or book twilight rounds. We played the Royal Course at Val de Lobo and paid £50 for a post 3pm tee time normally it would be £145.

Courses I've played down there: -

San Lorenzo - tricky to get on if your not staying at Dona Felipe Hotel - stunning stunning views

Villa Sol - really nice course would happily play again

Faldo & O'Connor Courses - reasonable drive from Villamoura - excellent courses - maybe a little on the hard side for a 26/28 handicapper

Victoria - home of the Portugese Masters - excellent golf course

Millennium - 5 exceptional holes in the pines - 13 holes with a more open resort feel

Laguna - not played it but the guys that did didn't rate it - 18 holes like the bad 13 on the Millennium (they share a club house)

Old Course - fantastic course - amongst pines and cork trees - see what I said about handicap certs - the test is hitting it in the right place off the tee.

As Tomvk77 said times are hard enough where they'll take anyone's money.

Enjoy,

Matt
