I am in need of a 52 degree wedge with the recent purchase of a new set of Mizuno MP-64 irons (4-PW). I currently have a Titleist Vokey SM3 56 and a Mizuno MP-T11 60. To be honest, I don't notice much of a difference between these two clubs. However, the new models are now out; which one of the two should I get?

I reviewed the MP-T4 wedges on the main site (http://thesandtrap.com/b/clubs/mizuno_mp-t4_wedge_review) and I must say that I really like them. I have a 50°, 54°, and 58°. The only complaint that I had with these is that they don't offer many options with regards to bounce, but if what they have fits what you need than you'd be hard pressed to find a better wedge.

To be fair, I haven't used any of the Vokey wedges so I can't really give you a comparison there. From everything I heard, Vokey makes great wedges as well. If I were you I'd figure out what you need as far as loft/bounce first and go from there. If both offer what you need than go with what looks/feels best to you.

Both are great wedges, take your pick.  Ive got an MP-T4 58* and its nice.  Ive played Vokeys in the past and theyre nice too.  Really, its a matter of which brand you buy into more and whether or not you think forged matters.

They're both very nice.  I personally play Vokeys because its something I've been doing for a long time and am just accustomed to the feel, look, and grind (which is usually M grind for sand and L grind for my lob).  I don't like taking risks with new wedges or grinds I'm not sure with.
I think forged heads are great because of how soft they are with 1/2 to full shots, but whenever it came to wedges, I've always gravitated towards soft cast instead because they tend to offer me more feel on chips, pitches...etc.  I played Clevelands 588 back in the day for the same reason until I found the grinds on Vokeys much more versatile.

But being a Mizuno fan, I have tried their T4 and R12.  They're both very nice but if I had to play one, I would play the R12.  They definitely feel a bit softer than the Vokeys, almost too soft for my taste.  But the grind is very versatile, and I have considered getting a sandwedge because of the rounder profile.  One thing I didn't like too much was the stock Spinner shafts.  They just felt somewhat odd to me, almost disconnected from head.  It did help a little with the spin, but not so much where its night and day.

It comes down to feel for you.  Not just on full shots but on chipping and pitching as well.  Try them both in the store. Find a spot in the store where you can just chip to say a 5 yd landing spot.  See which one gives you a better feel or sense of balance to control that distance.

I voted the Vokey as I personally have just a better feel with them. They felt a bit softer to me and I can hit the ball just a bit better in bad conditions. That being said the Mizuno's are great clubs and it's also in the mind of the guy swinging them. Oh and I love the look of the new Callaways that are coming! I'm saving to buy myself a new 52-56-60 set and I haven't decided just yet :)

    • Hole 6, 185 uphill par 3, wind out of the right. I hit a 7 iron to 5-FT left of the pin. The ball landed about 185.5 yards. I drained the putt for a birdie, and most likely a skin.  2nd place is more of a best swing made. 110 yard wedge shot, where I did what I wanted in the back swing and downswing.  I hit a 75% partial wedge 95%. It was flushed, flighted, and beautiful to watch fly over the green. 🤣. I will need to redial in the wedges sometime. Since I am making an effort to make my former 3/4 swing length my full swing length.
    • Is that like "the longest yardstick you can find"? I don't have Airtags but I'd call all of them Airtags too.!
    • Yea, that makes sense.  I remember an Open tournament when they brought out the wind meter one day because balls were being blown around the green. I think it was 45+ sustained, which probably means 60 mph gusts.  I think for the most part, it isn't something that needs to be taken into account.  Also, a golf ball is designed to optimally move through the air. It has better aerodynamics than a sphere.  Thanks for your expertise on this. That makes sense. I know about how wind diminishes the lower in height you go. I didn't know it went near zero at the ground. I deal more with tall structures (utility poles), and we have to take into account height and impacts of wind on the pole. A bit of experience, but wasn't sure how close to zero, non-impactful it was on the golf ball on the ground.
