I'm a right to left player, but my goodness to I hook the daylights outta that hybrid I have...25 yards of "draw" sometimes.

I don't pull hook it mind you...I simply start it out over the pretty homes on the right side of the hole and hope it comes back!!

I have a proper shaft....though I did buy the thing out of the bargain barrell...are the Taylor Made Rescue Mid's too offset for folks that already have a right to left ball flight?

Any other have the same problem and find a more appropriate club?

I used to have the same problem. Most hybrids are offset and people like us tend to over-draw the ball. I recently got the Adams Pro Series hybrids, which have no offset and they are 10 times better than other hybrids I have hit. The Taylor Made TP versions also have no offset and the Titleist might. Give those a try and see if they work for you.

I had the same issue with my Rescue Mid as it was a hook machine. I switched to the Cleveland Halo and that seemed to work out much better (plus right now you can get them cheap).

I can't play a hybrid to save my life. I kept one in my bag for putting out of the rough, but I favor my 5 wood to that anyway so I gave it to my Dad who likes it a lot better and seems to know how to use it.

I also have a lot of trouble hooking a ball at all...even when I am trying to.

I play right to left flight on my ball. I find that if make sure not to over swing and play the ball in the center of my stance I don't have that problem

As I have got better at golf I have started to hit the ball further and more accurately. In my irons that means a 20 yard slice has turned into a 5 yard draw. Which is fine, but in my hybrids a 10 yard fade has turned into a 10 yard draw and my mishits are going 30 yards left. However as long as you know how much you slice/hook/fade/draw the ball consistently you should be ok.

Yep- the Taylor Mades and Callaways have a massive hook bias. Try Sonartecs or Hogans.

You just need to play the ball back in your setup to stop getting around so much. play it as a Iron not a wood.

For many people, that will simply lead to more hooks. Further back means you're coming from the inside even more.

Some hybrids are heel-weighted or slightly closed or just a little offset (offset matters very little in this equation). Some aren't. If the hybrid is the only club you hook with, get a different hybrid.

That's a true statement, but most don't have the swing your talking about, they think they do and watching many golfers as you have also you see the casting the club out from the top or swinging around their body thinking they have a good swing, even bring the club straight back and straight thru with their arms only. Why he's hitting a twenty five yard hook I don't know? All we do is try helping with some tips for someone who we will never see hit the ball on a course.

I see. It's the hybrid you play the TM Rescue Mid is designed to hook. It's for slicers!

Totally agreed. The Rescue Mids are offset plus 1 degree closed, and I would get the hooks with them bad at times. I finally changed to the Rescue Dual TPs (slightly heavier swing weight than the mids, plus removes the close face, etc).

I can still hit a bad hook with them every once in a while, but that is the Indian not the arrow in this case. I do not feel like they are going to go 25 yards left on me like the Rescue Mids at times.

I had the Rescue Dual TP, but you can see in my sig I've been using the 585.H for quite awhile now too. The 585.H is the purest hybrid I've hit as far as doing what you ask of it.

And yeah, all of TM's non-TP stuff goes left for me. I won't use any of it.

The Rescue Mids are offset

Actually that's not true, the TM Rescue Mid face is square. This straight from the TM website

Rescue Mid Specifications . I see this posted all over the internet all the time. I've measured mine and they are indeed square. The club does have about 5-6mm of offset that the TP versions don't have though. Better players will generally prefer little or no offset. FWIW, I hit my Rescue Mids straight. I can work them right or left if I have to but my natural swing is a high, slight fade. I wouldn't recommend the TM Rescue Mid to a person who hits a draw as their natural shot.

Damn you are right. So much for believing the Taylormade club fitter.

Okay so the offset is really the big issue, and yes hitting a draw with the club can be an issue. -Justin

    • I mean, a golfer is trespassing and damaging property. So, golf rules don’t supersede state laws. 😉 Like, if it isn’t marked and is off golf property. The right thing to do is take an unplayable lie or take stroke and distance.  Also, this is a liability for the course. The homeowner could easily say the course is liable for damage done because they knowingly didn't mark their boundaries which allowed golfers to trespass and damage property.
    • Interestingly enough, if the course (the Committee in Rules terms) doesn't mark the boundaries, there is nothing out of bounds.  I realize that neighboring homeowners would take a dim view of golfers whacking balls from their backyards, but that's what the Definition of Out of Bounds requires. "All areas outside the boundary edge of the course as defined by the Committee."
    • I had two events the past two days. Yesterday I was playing a course blind. Hit it solid. Hit 9/14 fairways, 12/18 greens, 34 putts. Many of those putts were the result of balls that were close-ish to the hole when they landed, but wound up a long way away once they'd finished rolling (backwards mainly). Then today, hit 11/13 fairways, 11/18 greens, 37 putts, and shot 80. 8 over par and it wasn't particularly pretty. My big problem today was my pitching. I was inside 100 yards of the hole and off the green on 9 occasions.  1st - drive to about 75 yards, fanned a 58 degree short and right. On the green, but a good 40 feet away and good two putt from there (so took 3) 2nd - laid up to a bunker and it's narrow past it, so had 165 in, missed it right with an 8 iron. Wet rough, chip from about 5 yards off the green and the club snagged. It got on the green, but only temporarily. Overcorrected a bit on the next one and hit it a bit firm and it rolled out to about 35 feet. Putt didn't break and it ran on a bit and I missed the one back (greens were fast and a little bumpy, which didn't help, but doesn't excuse either). (took 5 to get down from close to the green) 4th - had about 95 from the right rough, hit it on the green and two putts (3) 5th - 90 from the fairway, tugged it and it got a firm bounce, chipped on and hit what I thought was a decent chip, but it ran out down the hill and two putts from 20 feet (4) 7th - 65 from the fairway, significant upslope and hit it a bit hard, ran long left against the collar. Tried to blade a PW, but it got under a bit so didn't advance it anything like far enough. Made a good two putt from there (4) 11th - 63 from the fairway, hit a squirrelly pitch on the green and two putts (3) 12th - 75 from the semi-rough, caught it a bit clean and it wound up on the back edge. Putting down a tier and it ran 8 feet past (that was actually a really good putt and couldn't have done any better I don't think) and missed that (4) 13th - 55 from the fairway, overcorrected and hit the big ball before the small ball. Then made a stellar up and down from 25 yards short to an elevated green with a putter (3) 15th - down in three from a greenside bunker (3) That was it. The other 9 holes I hit it on the green from outside 100 yards. So on those 9 occasions, I took 32 shots to get in the hole. 3.56 average. Terrible. Reason I'm posting this in here is to see if anyone has any suggestions for how to work on my contact with pitch shots. I don't have access to a grass range. Only mats and it's easy off a mat. Partly I think my problem is I've hit it off mats so much this winter that I've lost my judgement on where the ball is versus the ground because of the leeway granted. Open to ideas. I also suspect that under pressure I stand a bit closer to it and then get steep and hit down on it and it puts me in a bad place, but I can't seem to get myself to not do that.
