When is it time to switch to a different set of teeboxes?

I guess I look at this differently than a lot of you, but I enjoy making golf as hard as it can be.

I want to know that when I shoot low scores they are hard-earned, and that when I hit bad shots I pay for them. I also look at all of my rounds as practice for playing during the school year on my golf team and playing from the white tees just sets me up to think I am better than I really am.

I do agree, however, that the length of the courses you are playing can make which tees you play quite irrelevant.

Most of the courses I play are just under 7000 yards from the blue tees, what about you guys'?

Fox Run - 7,000 plus change from the black tees. (It goes black, gold, gray ,white - I hit from the golds, at about 6600).

Willows - 6,900 something from blues, 6,500 or so from the whites. Pioneer - 5,800 from the blues, 5200-something from the whites. (These three are my home courses.) Sugar Bay - 5200-something from the whites? Not sure, really. I've only played there two or three times this year. Twin Oaks - 6,100 from the blues, 5,600-something from the whites. California - 6,000-something from the blues, 5,800 or so from the whites. Not a hundred percent on this one - only played there twice. But it's cheap - $16 for all you can golf with a cart after 4 PM. Not sure about the red tees on any of them. They only concern me when my drive comes up short of them.

As everyone has said, the color of the tees is irrelevant, what matters is the appropriate yardage for your game.

If I am playing by myself, I will usually play the tees that are 6500-6700. I am happy to go down to 6000 or so (usually the whites) when playing with friends.

I stopped playing the 5800-6200 (whites) tees when I was mainly hitting driver/3 wood - wedge on many of all the par 4s. And when I was hitting driver, mid-long iron into the par 5s.

At the end of the it depends on how I am feeling with my game, the course, the conditions (winter I will usually play whites more because there is zero to little roll and the courses can play long).

I played a course in NH a couple times recently called The Shattuck. The Blues are only 6077 yards and then it goes back to the Blacks which are 6764. This is at a higher elevation then I play in California (ie sea level here), so 6700 yards is no problem for me as it is what I normally play out here. But with the Shattuck, the course plays way longer than the yardage and I followed the handicap guidelines they provided. I hit 1 driver the second time I played it (hit 3 the first time, realized I should not have hit it on two of the holes that I did).

Though handicap isn't the only guide. I play regularly with a number of people who have similar handicaps as I do, but the distance we hit the ball is definitely different. I hit the ball longer. So if we were to play the longer tee boxes, I have the big advantage, but it forces me to be less aggressive when we play the shorter tee boxes, and I end up scoring better.

The person who recommended playing different tee boxes, I would agree. Playing the course shorter/longer than you normally would really makes you think about course management more.

What I have noticed is this:

I really am being honest about my driver length. When I hit it, it goes 280-300

It appears to be a bit like fishing...each time you ask it's changing.

LOL But honestly I only have an issue going to the tips when you start impacting the pace of play. Generally speaking if you are not a single digit player you can find yourself in a bit more trouble and then the rest of the course pays while the person(s) search for lost balls or hitting 3 off the tee cuz they went into the hazzard

Welcome to the interweb. You should just learn to laugh instead of taking stuff so seriously

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
