Had a terrible nine Sat so afterwards I stopped at  a range to experiment . I concentrated on getting my clubface pointing out towards the target line at the end or top of the backswing . Don't know if I'm describing it right , but the face is pointing out towards the course ,as opposed to the face pointing more left at the top ?The difference , especially with driver , was dramatic . Before , my drives were duck hooks or even high right popups . I hope I wandered onto what I was supposed to be doing from the start ? thanks

I am not sure what you are talking about.  If it is open it is pointing out roughly where your chest points at address. If it is more closed it tends to point more towards the sky.  Unless you take it back as far as Daily or something.

Clubface will roughly rotate 90 degrees in the backswing, from address to the top. How the clubface points at the top is dependent on the angle of the clubface at address (closed, square, open), and how you grip the club. For example a strong grip, your left hand will look cupped at the top of the swing. So, you don't need to make sure its flat.
