Hi everybody I have been golfing for the last six months and have been getting better each round.  My question is the following, should I remove my driver from my bag?  I hit my three wood 230-250 yards on average.  I don't feel in control when I pull my driver to tee off.  I'm willing to sacrifice the lost yards for a more controlled shot.  What do you all think?  Should I keep it in the bag or just keep using the three wood?  Obviously I'm trying to gain more control and practice with my driver whenever I'm at the range.  Thanks in advance for your comments.

There is usually a hole that the driver makes sense.  If you can control your 3 wood and hit it that far then you should be able to control your driver.

What does the driver do?  Left and right misses?  Slices?

if you are asking us if you should take it out, then you should experiment take it out.  This game is all about confidence, which seems to be wavering, with that club.

I did it the other day and shot better than usual.  If anything else it will open your eyes to new ways to play a hole. i.e 4 iron, 5 iron, putt, putt rather than driver, 9 iron, putt putt (or for me driver, chip out...)

i did it earlier this season, started playing much better.

using 3w or 3i off the tee, finding more fairways, having more fun.

give it a shot, only way you'll know is by trying!!

I did it earlier this season, did pretty well but decided I needed to work a little harder and put a driver back in the bag. I felt I was lacking on the longer par 5's. But whatever you are confident with go with that.

My shots are hooking hard to the right.  I think that I'm leaving the face too open. Even when i close the club face my shots still hook right.

If you take it out of your bag, it will be easier to swing.

I used to be like you and took mine out for a year, i have a rbz 13' fairway and hit a mile 260-275 tested on the field and started to hit lower scores, until one of mu friends gave a an r7 and i was hitting 270++ and took a few lesson from a friend on how to aproach the ball with the driver and it work out perfectly... Now i owned the Rbz tour driver and i am hiiting better than before My swing speed is about 115mph and carried 280++++++ My advised spend a few bucks on lessons and they will teach how to swing propertly

No, you just need to practice more with it.  Book a lessons with a good PGA pro and figure out what your struggles with the driver are.  Just taking it out of the bag really doesnt fix the problem.

Do whatever makes you enjoy golfing more.  I might be switching to a sort of 2w set up instead of a driver myself.  I have never liked big headed drivers anyway,

I'm toying with the idea of getting the Callaway X Hot 3 Deep and taking out my current driver and 3 wood, leaving me with the Callaway, and a 4 wood.

Got my 4w today.  The 2 wood should come later this week.  Might even play driver and the 2w, and 4w, we will see.  I think the 3 deep is a very cool looking club as well.

I know we're hijacking the thread here, but I'm curious what 2w you went with.

Um yeah why do you even own a driver?  Sounds like your 3W is money if that distance is consistent and accurate.

Does this have a larger face than a normal 3W?

I am trying out the 12.5 Driveway by Kick X, I plan on reviewing it as well.  If I do not like it than I will look at the 3 deep or possibly the TE 11.5 mentioned about.  But I love the look of the 3 deep.

If this is the one he's talking about , it looks like the face might be a bit deeper than your typical 3 wood.

I've heard good things about the Driveway, but never actually seen one. I'll keep an eye out for your review. And yeah, the 3 Deep has a great look.

    • Day 23: weird day, and only had a little bit of time. Just did mirror work again, working on where the elbow is in the downswing
    • I flipped over to this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. Anyone else watch? I picked it up during the golf relay event, but seeing these pros out having fun in alternative events was refreshing and entertaining. I’m sure it will be on in reruns in the next week or so, so I won’t spoil the outcome. Im curious what others thought of it. I’m recording it’s later airing to see the beginning.
    • Day 443 - 2025-12-17 Made a few swings in testing some things out at another academy. Might pop up on someone else's podcast in a few weeks.
    • Day 37 (17 Dec 25) - nine hole round with my good friend.  We got paired up with a couple of the men’s group regulars as part of their shootout.  Started off with a wonderful quad bogie and then a dbl on three to be six over thru three holes.  Game went 180° over the next five as I shot one under (including a chip in birdie on hole six and four up and down 1 putt pars) for a net finish of five over. What could have been a really tough nine became a solid finish due to staying in the moment and not checking out.  Great day in course management and keeping perspective .
    • Day 127 12-17 Backswing and flow practice. Took advantage of the 60 degeee weather(it was 20 degrees Sunday)
