I have started to experiment with my backswing. In Stan Utley's short game book he speaks about starting your backswing by folding your trail elbow so it slides along your rib cage. I have started to implement this same feel into the full swing. It seems to give me a more structured and controlled back swing and it seems to promote a flat wrist going back and then down and through the ball. I haven't done any video with this yet so it's all subjective feels for me right now, I have no idea what my wrist is actually doing but it feels bowed. Does anyone else work with a similar feel on their back swing? Just let your trail elbow fold and slide back along your rib cage till the club is horizontal and parallel to the target line. Then I just try to swing the entire formation back through the ball on an outward arc.

I do, but I am careful to try to keep the distance between my elbows constant.  For me, my right elbow would get stuck around my side and cause an OTT swing.  Mvmac had me focus on keeping the elbows closer and the feeling of driving my right elbow toward my belly button on the downswing.

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to over think things too much as I'm playing decent (for me) golf right now but I can't help obsessing at least a little bit. I might try to sneak away today and video some of these feels just to see what is actually happening.

    • Just add new stats of speed of play to the tour. Average time to hit a shot Number of shots per round the player took more than 40 seconds to play a shot Number of times under the clock Numbers of warnings per round for slow play Number of penalty strokes per round for slow play  Number of times the player took a WC break. Time spend on the WC  Number of times the player don't know basic rules and have to call for a rules official  Walking average speed Time spend reading yardage books Time spend arguing with the caddie about hitting an impossible shot.  Average time looking for a ball beyond 3 minutes.  Average time looking for balls on the hazards despite been in the middle of the fairway An a lot more that can give the committee enough information to award penalties after a round, tournament or even a season. Imagine a ruling were a player is awarded to play all April with 1 shot penalty each round because of slow play in March, should be a shit show I would love to see.
    • I agree. I like the Mission Impossible movies. None of them are life changing or movies that I would put in any kind of a top ten list. But they are pretty much always keep me entertained.
    • Might be good. Part 1 was only okay.
