So I was playing golf today and one of my playing partners had my same irons, except in graphite shafts.

I have been looking for a 3-Hybrid to replace my 4-Hybrid as now I have a 4-Iron that I can hit reliably both off a tee and off the fairway or teebox, but anyways I hit his graphite-shafted 3-Iron a few times and was just killing it about 245 and straight down the pipe when I wanted it to and also very easy to draw or fade.

After today's round I have been thinking about possibly getting my 3-Iron reshafted in a graphite shaft (such as an Aldila-NV or something similar) and using it as a more versatile hybrid that is also great for driving on tight holes.

Has anyone experimented with something similar and can give me feedback on whether or not this is an idea worth pursuing?

Thanks for your help,
Michael.

It will definatly make the club lighter, thats prob why you were hitting it so much further and smoother. You can prob try it, i dont see what could go wrong.

Thanks Dent, mainly I was just curious if anyone else has had experience with this and if it worked well for them.

The main appeal of this for me is that it is much easier to work the ball than with my current hybrid, and also that it is significantly cheaper and lets me do something with that 3-Iron. Just for reference I have True Temper Dynamic Gold S-300 shafts in my irons if that makes any difference.

Yeah... I think irons built for graphite shafts typically are weighted differently. The swingweight on yours (OP) might be off if you drastically change the weight of the shaft.

So the weight on a Slingshot Tour that I have in steel shafts is different than the same club in graphite shafts?

Just curious because I obviously don't want to do this if it really won't work like I would like. Thanks for any and all responses.
