I honestly don't remember my stats on swing speed or anything, but i hit my 9-iron about 150-155 (fairway and off the tee yardages respectively), and same for my 5 iron (195-210-ish). I am playing a mizuno mp-60 with S300 steel shafts. I am 6'4'', but i got my clubs fitted in high school some 5 or 6 years ago (they added 2'' of length when i was 6'2''). Ive decided to upgrade everything i have (new driver, new shafts in old clubs, new wedges and putter). I need recommendations to anything really, but more specifically the debate between steel vs graphic x-flex shafts (matt kutchar plays graphite). My iron shots tower over everyone's, so im looking for a lower trajectory. any help would be great. anyone know of styles of putter better for tall people? currently playing a center fixed never compromise from back in the day.

Project X and KBS C-Taper are designed for lower launch and flight.

If your hitting your iron shots to high with Dynamic Gold S300's, then its your swing. Dynamic Gold are one of the lowest trajectory irons out there. Also, going from an S300 to an X100 or more will not decrease your high or spin that much. Flex doesn't really matter to much in the scheme of things. Its really a fine tuning aspect of when your selecting a golf shaft.

If you want lower trajectory, I would post your swing in your Member Swing Thread (or create one if you haven't yet), and lets see if that's the issue. If I was a betting man, i would put money on it being the swing.

If YOU'RE hitting the ball high with S300, then it could be lots of things. Some folks hit the ball high. I'm one of them. I don't think my swing is jacked--I can hit a 5i 200-210 yards and a mile in the air. I switched from S300 to C-Taper (after a brief flirtation with KBS Tour) and it brought down both my spin and launch angle, and I can now control the ball much better in wind. Shafts matter. Maybe not in the way that a lot of people think (the "do I need stiff shafts?" threads are a little overdone), but they do matter.

High is kind of a vague descriptor if you're comparing your shots to other amateurs. I think I read pros average something like 27 yards height and I don't see many amateurs hitting it that high.

Given i think height should be relative to the ball speed. Lower ball speeds will go lower. The LPGA height are almost 5 yards lower than the PGA height. Their club head speed is around 95 mph for driver.

Most amateurs hit the ball to high because they don't have keys 1-3 down. This leads to hands being behind the ball at impact, and that adds to the dynamic loft of the shot.

I don't see many amateurs hitting it too high. Most lack distance and height, even the scoopers.

Thanks guys for all the info. I've been playing with the flex on my driver and noticed it was pretty similar flight. although i did switch from a stiff flex 9 degree to an x flex 10.5. I will post my swing this weekend from multiple angles and please give me tips. should have it up sometime Saturday

    • Day 34 (14 Dec 25) - Got outside for a few moments to work on bump and runs with the 4h (again using the exaggerated weight shift reminder of the left (lead) heel). Finding that it helps keep the downswing arc extended.

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
