I just went to the V1 Home website and it seems that they dont offer the program for a mac..

Anyone know of any free swing analysis software available for macs?

If you have a modern Mac then you can use BootCamp and boot into a windows partition. I do that for first person shooters. (No Halo on the Mac!)

Seems like a PITA though? I dont really wanna start partitioning drives, but if its simple, I'll give it a go...

How long to set that up?

I've never seen the need, frankly. If I had, I'd have probably written an app to do this, but I think nobody would buy it. Why? Because I don't think I'd buy it if someone else had already written it.

What do you do in analysis software? Nothing that you can't do with - as low-tech as it may sound - a business card or something.

I think V1 is great for instructors , too, but as a student I have no need - none - for any of the tools.

I do have a license for xScope, and it comes in handy the few times I need to measure angles or feel like using an on-screen straight-edge instead of a business card. I didn't buy it for golf, but I use it sometimes.

I will also say that the QuickTime X player that shipped with 10.6 sucks, so I do all of my analysis in the older QuickTime 7 Player.

P.S. Don't do Boot Camp. Totally not worth it if this is all you're going to do.

P.P.S. See post two now. I merged an old thread.

Can you draw lines and/or measure angles using Quicktime? I have Windows 7, unfortunately, and all i want to do is draw lines and measure angles.

No. QuickTime's just for playback and a little editing/exporting, really.

Hard drives are so stupid large now that a partition for windows is no big thing. I tried VMWare but I do not use windows very often so it was not worth the trouble. Bootcamp is like having a spare machine in the house that was free and doesn't take up any room. Like I said I use it for first person shooter games and feel like it has made my Mac even better. I will upgrade to Windows 7 in a couple of days. Don't get me wrong, I am a die hard Mac person but as I said, having a Windows partition just proves how great a Mac really is.
As for Quicktime, I find it will step through my Kodac Zi8 60fps movies just fine.

As for setting up Bootcamp you start by downloading and reading this
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boo...tall-setup.pdf
It was no big deal. (Of course you need to have a legal copy of Windows.) I set up a 250 gig partition and it seems about right.

That doesn't change the fact that Boot Camp is overkill for golf swing video analysis.

Yeah, thats what i thought. I thought maybe i had been using it just for playback and was missing some other features, but i guess not. I don't really like WMP, because you can't drag the little icon and make it play frame by frame. You can in Quicktime.

Why would anyone want to buy a full version of Windows for over $250 to run Boot Camp just for 1 piece of golf software?

Good points, I think I'll just use the swingacademy webpage. It has basically everything I need there.

Cant wait to start taking lessons! Took a "mini-lesson" yesterday, about 10 minutes with a pro cuz he was walking by, and man did he have some good things to say..

I want to video tape the lessons so I can go back home and see exactly what he was talking about and how I was swinging.

A little off-topic since it's an iPhone app, but anybody tried " iSwing " ? I saw this app while browsing for the TourTempo thing 3 days ago. It was 99 cents (well, JP¥115 for me here) so I bought it. Haven't had the chance to try it yet with someone's swing though But you can draw lines, and replay the swing frame by frame with the lines over it, i.e. the basics.
Here's a link to an introductory video for it:

I have it. I think it kinda sucks, but that's cuz the iPhone video camera isn't exactly built for golf swing analysis.

If there was any need for a basic swing analysis for the Mac, I've said for years I'd write it. There's not enough need.

Just got it on my iPhone 3G... thought it was pretty useful and helped me actually focus on my swing rather than hammering away at it. If you have UStream on your iPhone you'll notice that the video on iSwing is about 100x smoother and though the FPS isn't the best, it can still be pretty useful for video feedback.

    • Day 299: played 18. Hit the ball well, but did not score well. I think I ended up +10, with half of that coming on 2 holes.
    • Day 549, May 4, 2024 After lessons and working with Natalie, hit some balls for awhile. Just backswing stuff. Forgot about the slightly shorter stuff, though I'm sure it was as they were only about 75% speed with brief pauses.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.
