I'm looking to get a set of the new Titleist AP2 714's and wanted some feedback on shafts that you guys (and girls) are currently gaming.  Right now I have Project X 5.5 in my AP2s (708 model) and like them, but haven't really had the opportunity to hit KBS very much, etc.  Stock option in these are Dynamic Gold S300, but wondering if I should throw a few extra bucks at "upgraded shafts".  With that being said, what iron shaft is working best for you?  My driver SS is around 95-100.

Of those, Id have to go with Dynamic Gold.  For me, it gives me a nice ballflight that is neither too high, nor too low and good feel.  Im not a PX fan.  Ive had a few clubs with PX shafts and for me they are too boardy and hit the ball too low.

I had a set of Bridgestone irons with Nippon stiff shafts and they were fine but nothing Id get all excited about.  I cant say that Ive ever tried anything KBS though...

Swing speed is important but other factors are also important. What is your typical ball flight - high, low, fade of draw. Bend point is important in shafts as well as torque. Remember that shaft flex varies from one manufacturer to another - all stiff shafts are not created equal. Do you think Nick Price creates a different load in his shaft than Davis Love - yes because two different swings. My advice would be to go to a Golfsmith and swing different shafts - you may be surprised what you end up with.

For the long term, I like Aerotech Steelfibers - they come in various weights from 70-110, wedge weights at 125g, and are very low in torque. Snedeker and Kuchar use them in 95g.

They are a graphite core with micro steel fiber strands wound around the shaft. The benefits over the long term are that you are less likely to have shoulder and elbow issues.

Good luck.

Wow, I've never even heard of those.  I'm going to have to look into that.

It is best to have them installed by a club maker who knows them - I am told by a good clubmaker they run firm to flex in regular through the flexes. Depending on your speed and tempo, you may need to softstep them or move down in flex.

But they are great shafts.

I play them in the i80 - I am told it is the most popular weight.

Choose what fits you.

Went for 'other'. Really like the 'standard' Rifle shafts (see signature). True Temper DG as a close second. Hate PX as, for me, they feel very harsh.

I'm thinking very seriously of getting fitted for some AP2s around Christmas.  I am sort of inclined to look at graphite for the lighter weight and softer feel so I'm going with other.  However, what I come away with will be the result of the fitting, not my preconceptions about what I want going in.

I think you guys are right - it will be best to see what combination feels/reacts best at the fitting.  I know my club fitter stocks DG, Rifle, Nippon, KBS, but not sure about Aerotech.  Can't wait to get out there and test them out!

KBS...but the C-Taper and Tour couldn't be much different. Get KBS tour if you want high, and C-Taper if you want low. But definitely KBS. (In my opinion)

I chose Nippon only because I was fitted to them.  I've played DGSL shafts and like them too.  Project X seem harsh to me.  I would recommend getting fitted.

AeroTech i95cw. Changed shafts in MP 53's from PX 5.0 because of tennis elbow. Really like the lighter weight. Composite is softer on joints and allows for more practice.
