I've been thinking about doing a golf trip this winter with some friends.  Everything is pretty fluid right now, but we'd probably prefer to do it around late February.  Obviously not the most ideal time for a lot of traditional spots (Carolinas).  Anyone know of any resorts in some good spots that time of the year?  Probably looking to keep it around 600-700 bucks on a three night stay including the golf.  Ideally I'd like to find a resort with a few courses on site to limit the amount of driving and running around.

Thanks in advance!

If you find a 4 day deal at this price, please let me know.

To clarify, I'm looking for 3 nights but only assuming I'll actually play 3 days at the most.  I'm thinking by the time I fly there, get to the resort and checked in, I probably won't play the day of arrival.  Would play on day 2, 3, and maybe one round on day of departure depending on the flight.  I have to believe that 700 bucks will get you 3 nights in a hotel and at least one round of golf a day during that time period.  Granted I'm from the state with the best public golf and probably the best value in golf in the whole country, so maybe I'm crazy.  3/4 of us can certainly afford to pay a lot more than that, but one guy in our group isn't as well off as the rest of us.  If he backed out, money really isn't an issue.

My thought process is though that if you have double occupancy, 3 nights should be 100-125pp.  That's 300-375.  Throw in 3 rounds of golf at 100 a pop that's 300 more.  It doesn't seem like it would be unreasonable or difficult, especially during what isn't peak season.

I've gotten a recommendation from a colleague that mentioned Mission Inn North of Orlando.  I checked it out and looks decent.  Not sure what the weather is like that time of year though.

Just booked mine! Jan 3rd to 5th, land in Spain fri 12:15. tee off at el chaparral 1:30, then go to San roque, stay over, play the old course on the sat, stay over, play the new course on the sun, then fly home for dinner Sunday evening! 3 championship courses in 3 days! Happy new year!

I highly recommend taking a look at golf packages in Mesquite, Nevada.

It's only an hour drive north out of Vegas.

Golf courses are fabulous, and very reasonable $$$.

You also have entertainment for the evening hours.

Weather is usually favorable, even during the winter months.

Accommodations are pristine.

Southwest Airlines serves the Vegas Hub, for low airfare.

Places I would check out:

Florida - Weather in Feb. is close to perfect. But the rates can be higher than you want to pay.  Check around the Panhandle area for better rates.

Gulf Coast - Weather is iffy but generally pretty good. Casinos in Biloxi area may have golf/hotel packages.

Arizona - Great weather, usually. But again, check the rates.  There are some good packagers in the Phoenix area that will combine golf with condo lodging for 4 for a good price.

Myrtle Beach - Weather may be cooler than you want, but lots of golf/lodging packages available.

Nevada - The 5 years I lived there were COLD winters. Like 50 degrees and brisk wind cold. Maybe you could get lucky.

Southern California - Not too familiar with packages, but my guess is they would be over your price range.

Looks like a good setup.  I'll have to look into it a bit more.  What's the weather like that time of year?

Average highs in the low 70's and not much rain.  Just about perfect.

Another handful of very good courses within less than 20 minutes drive from there too if you get a wild hair......

Orlando can be great. Many houses for rent that can save money on food and lodging. OCN is great. Weather can be almost anything. Some of the best ever was on a trip in late February. Also, the coldest we ever played (not dressed for it) was at OCN on the same trip.

That's exactly what I'm doing this winter - playing Mesquite courses (4)

Hi! you should check out other golf courses in Spain some other time! Have you been to Madrid or Barcelona? there are really great golf courses there ... also the North of Spain.. La Coruña, Santander, Bilbao, San Sebastian.. great food, really great golf courses, great cities!.. well what can I say.. I´m from Spain and I love my country!, hope you have fun!

If you can read round my clear commercial self-interest then I still don't think it necessarily alters the legitimacy of the answer

If it's golf, then Scotland has to be obvious calling to answer? The popular golf playing area of Scotland extends from Royal Dornoch in the north, to Turnberry in the south (yes I know there are courses outside of my crude boundary, but I had to draw the line somewhere). It's roughly about the size of Maryland, yet contains 12-13 courses that are regularly ranked in the top-100 in the world, plus a host of hidden gems and some of incredibly rich (and genuine) history. St Andrews, Carnoustie, Muirfield, Dornoch and Turnberry will normally make a list of top-25. Kingsbarns, Castle Stuart, Royal Troon (now joined by Trump this year) will make it into the top-50 territory. Others that tend to get top 100 ranked are North Berwick, Cruden Bay, Loch Lomond, and Machrihanish. You could make a case for the likes of Gleneagles, Nairn, Royal Aberdeen, and if its history with a bit eccentricity, then Prestwick also deserves a mention as birthplace to the Open (1860), which has of course been replicated all over the world since as a medal play format. Prestwick actually remains surprisingly faithful to the original course, albeit I'd love to see some of today's Pro's going ape if asked to play it with all it's blind shots and egg box landscaping! If you can find a better concentration anywhere on the planet in such a small area, then you've done well

I think a lot depends on whether you're asking about golf or climate though? The two should be separate but one detects that very often they aren't. The game was never meant to be easy, it was designed to test all sorts of shots in all sorts of conditions on different terrain.

also looking to take a reasonably affordable golf trip with the wife for 3 or 4 days in February.      Would prefer to stay at a golf resort this time ... any ideas ?

Location my wife and I like a lot is Biloxi, MS.  Casino/Resort Hotels means low-cost accommodations, 3 decent tracks in the area all play for VERY reasonable prices, weather should be good in Feb., nice restaurants/good seafood and gambling to help you win back the price of your golf trip ... yeah, right!

Area golf courses include a Davis Love III track called Shell Landing.  Hosts some regional tournaments and a really nice track at a reasonable price. The Bridges is an Arnold Palmer design in Bay St. Louis about 45 minutes from Biloxi.  Last couple of times it wasn't in great shape, but it does see a lot of rounds.  Lastly and best is the Jack Nicklaus course called Grand Bear.  Not sure of cost in Feb., but Sept rounds were $75 and worth every penny.

Check flights into Gulfport, MS.  Stay at hotels in Biloxi.  Golf at local tracks.  Should be a pretty nice 3-4 day jaunt south for warmer weather.
