Sorry, just had to get this out..lol

So, Tues, I went and saw my back doctor, great lady, explained everything that had to do with my back hurting, unlike the doctors before her. I'm taking meds to help with inflammation mainly, I also have some mild pain meds. I also start PT April 1. So along with the meds, and my Stretching program, that I prescribed myself..haha, I feel 200% better, I have hit 500 balls at the range since, including today, and I feel Great! The best part is, my swing and golf shots are way, way better, in fact I had the Best day today.

My 9i was consistently at 140 yds with a nice slow tempo, which is my Key to good shots. The drills that Mike and Erik post here, along with my lesson from Mike and Dana, have helped more than I can express. To say I was satisfied and happy with my results today is a under statement. Hard work and doing drills the way they are prescribed and doing them over, and over again is the key for me. I just hope to continue to improve, and at 65 yrs, I need to get it done soon..lol j/k

Have a lesson with Mike in May hopefully so we'll see if I can do even better then.

And on the mushy side of things, a Big thanks to Erik, Mike, and all of those who gave me advise tha helped my swing..

Dam, it's great to Not have any pain... :-D

What type of back problem did/do you have, if you don't mind me asking? Sciatica? Degenerative Disc(s)?

Just wondering what type of issue you have and what type of stretching is helping. I'm not even 30 yet and I've been dealing with 3 bulging discs, 1 herniated disc and a severely pinched sciatic nerve for almost 5 years now. No injections, stretching, exercises or PT have helped. It's basically a matter of dealing with it until I'm at the point of considering surgery. Sometimes the pain from walking/standing is so harsh that it causes pain sweats lol, my forehead will just literally bead up and the pain is gruesome. At that point, I have to kneel down and pretend that I'm tying my shoe so that I can "reset the pain" for another few minutes until it again feels like someone someone is twisting a Phillips Screwdriver into my hip a few minutes later. This is especially aggravating when I can't quite keep up with my 2 year old boy.

To begin with, I have a twisted and curved spine. Also have Lumbosacral disc degeneration. Which means I have almost no space between a couple of disc's, and have bone spurs around them which creates inflammation/pain.

The stretches I do are very basic, and not over done. I stand up, legs slightly apart, and bend at the waist to my side, i.e. left arm up over my head, and bend to the right, hold for about 6-7 seconds, then do the other side, I do these about 4 times per day.

Twist's. just as in if you were making a golf swing only standing straight up, I turn to the side as far as I can, and hold for 7 to 10 seconds, I do 5 of these on each side 4 times per day.

Sit down on the floor, legs pointed out at about 45 degrees and just bend over at the waist with arms out stretched touching the floor in front of you, go easy on these at first, I do 3 of these holding each one as long as I can for 5 reps.

These may or may not help you. What I would suggest is through friends or associates to find a good back specialist and consult them.

I know exactly the pain your talking about. At one point in the mid 80's, they put me in traction for 3 days, I could not walk, and was off work for almost a month. I wish I could offer more info/help, but I can't, I truly hope you find the answer to your problem, as I've had my bad back for about 50 yrs, and wouldn't wish the pain on my worst enemy.

Re: doctors, If you don't find the right doctor at first, keep searching, it took me a long time to find one that was able to help.

oh, and the meds I'm taking now is Prednisone, which is an anti-infammatory. At this time, I'm not taking any pain meds, so that good.

Good Luck, and hang in there.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
