Boo for me!! I am 6'3" 275lbs but only hit 255 on average.

You and me both. Although I think I'm worse. Gained some 40-odd lbs on a drug with horrid side effects, so I'm about 300. Drive the ball about 270 on average so that gives me what... 0.9?

I think the difference is that NM Golf has a .5 index and you have a 17.0 index so it is very believeable that he bombs the ball.

I think it is believable that Jeepthrills hits 275 since he is 6'8" and weighs 235 lbs. He may hit it into the trees like I do, but he could easily get that distance and still have a 17.0 index.

Distance <> low hdcp.

Gee...glad I said I hit 275. Otherwise, I'd think you were judgmental.

I'm sure some people exaggerate but there are surely those that don't.

I think alot of people take their "average drive" off of their best two or three of the day. I went out yesterday and my first two drives average 270. I also then hit two around 225, so hence the 245 average. But yeah I think alot of the people making these claims are capeable of that distance, just don't do it consistantly.

Agreed, According to accurate yardage markers on the course I can easily hit a ball 270-290. I have hit 3 300+ yard drives, but I still beleive my average is around 260-270. I know Im usually hitting further than that, but the average is always lower than what you drive all the time. Some drives can be shanks, or just simply short, most people when thinking of their average think of their longest drive then subtract 10-20 yards from that, not how it works.

It also has A LOT to do with conditions you play in. So, I dont really buy anyone's average actually. I play almost exclusively in FL. I carry the ball about 260 off the tee, level fairway, no wind. So therefore, I drive the ball 260 (very very few courses here are dry enough to get any roll.) I hit a few drives yesterday that I got negative yardage. I went to NY for a few weeks and played my old home course... I Averaged just a shade under 300 yards off the tee. I even hit a few in the 320-330 range. There is a par 4 we play there that is 440 and just a shade up hill. In the middle of the fairway, there is a HUGE valley, then it goes straight up hill to the green. It is about 290 to the top of the valley... I had to hit 3 wood off the tee and was at the top of the valley almost every time. Was I magically hitting it 40 yards farther? Nope, I may have been hitting it a bit farther, but it was mainly this funny thing called ROLL. The problem with roll, is it doesnt get you over that bunker in the middle of the fairway... So including roll in your "average" drive doesnt accomplish much.

well u guys dont have to believe me but i do hit my drives that far and on occasions once a round(maybe) ill have a drive go over 300 but my longest drive ever is 460 cause i drove the green on a par4

OK, yeah, I don't believe you. 460 - c'mon - Downhill with a 60 mph tailwind I don't think any tour pro on the face of the earth can drive a green 460 yds. out. Are you GITrDONE signed on with a new username?

    • Starting over - missed posting yesterday and it had been less than 28 days since last off day….today was tempo drill day.  Worked on takeaway and moving smoothly into weight shift.
    • I know it is probably dependent on a lot of factors, but how windy does it have to be out before you need to start guessing on how much it would influence the break of your putt?  When I played at Bandon, it was like 25-30 mph winds. The caddies talked about the wind negating break. The only time I had it visually influence my putt was on hole 18 at Bandon Dunes. My missed my putt on the high side of a pretty severe breaking putt. The slope around the hole was in the 2-3 degree range. As the ball was about to come to a stop, the wind gusted and pushed the ball half a rotation into the cup.  The rest of the week I thought it had no influence at all. I was thinking, is it just over thinking to try to account for the wind?
    • Day 310 - 2025-08-06 Went downtown in the late afternoon and got nearly two hours of work in. Not a ton of breaks. Was blasting the TS at the end, from a HomePod and two TVs. 😄
    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
