I have boughten my Hybrid (HaLo 3i) and my putter (Odessey White Hot XG #2) both on eBay with no problems.

But I always check with TGW.com (I got my Cobra irons there) and also my local Golfsmith is willing to match pricing.

Just depends on what level of service I need for that club.

I buy and sell on ebay all the time. I don't need new clubs, and I'm happy saving about half on last year's models. I've bought everything in my bag off ebay, and I've been able to resell the clubs I ended up not liking for about the same price I paid. I've had 2 bad experiences on ebay, and I've written them off as the cost of saving money by using ebay in the first place.

A few recommendations I can give are to buy from powersellers with great feedback. Read their feedback and don't just assume that their percentage is a perfect reflection of their business practices. There are many sellers that maintain good feedback because they threaten to leave a neg for the buyer. Many sellers also have mutually removed feedback. That usually means that the buyer would rather have the rotten deal rather than get negative feedback. Ask the seller a question before you bid, even if its only to find out how responsive the person will be if you have to contact them after the sale. Read the feedback they've left for others. This will often tell you about their character. How did the seller deal with problems in the past?

Basically, be smart. If no one else is bidding on something there may be a reason. There are also many guides available, that were written by fellow ebayers.

I read an article about counterfeiters in China reproducing Callaway clubs, bags etc using materials that were below Callaway specifications. They sell the counterfeits on eBay for hundreds less. Then people buy them thinking they got a great deal and the clubs fall apart. Callaway won't fix the clubs of course because they are counterfeit. Has anyone here ran into that problem?
It definitely scared me away from eBay.

I have bought and sold on eBay for years with very few problems. Research is the key to getting a good deal. I always read a few pages of feedback especially if its a pricey item.

I love ebay. It's a great place to try out clubs cheaply. If you don't like them, just resell them until you find something you like.

I have purchased clubs from all three. Origionally when I was in grad school I relied more on ebay to get a good steal now and then that was affordable. Now with a real job I have gone for quality without the ?????????

I buy some items off ebay that I have tried at demo days (such as my D1), but it is hard to get custom items like my irons, especially in LH, which needed 1* upright and 1 inch length. But I buy accesories such as gloves, balls and tees off there.

I buy and sell all the time on ebay. I love buying a club for $100, trying it out, and selling it for about $100 if I don't like it. Sometimes I make $$, sometimes I lose $$, but I love knowing that trying it out won't cost me a bundle.

An engineer friend of mine who does alot of work in China brought back an entire set of Taylor Made R7 draw clubs, including bag, for $100 last year. He said in the market places they are everywhere. We compared them visually to a real set and you cannot tell the difference. If it looks too good to be true it probably is. I buy alot on ebay but it is from the reputable dealers there, I occasionally buy from the private seller and my experiences have been mostly positive.

Ebay is by far the way to go!
Brand new in the plastic superquads for $250...
How can you go wrong? You just have to be careful and find the right sellers based on their feedback from other ebay users.
If you use the site correctly, you will find amazing buys.

By the way, how do i get my list of clubs in my post or in my profile????

    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
