Congrats to the Aussie for the achievement. Over the years the rankings have been a bit confusing to the public as it concerns the value of certain events and longevity. The networks still attempt to turn every Major or significant World Golf event into a 2 man race, even when the other isn't playing, for fear of losing the fan base of golf. Spoiler alert to NBC and the GC, the golfing public is wiser than you give us credit for and we have moved on, and so should they.

"Good on ya Mate'",  for your assent to the Top of the heap and may you stay there long enough to enjoy the view!

It will almost certainly happen, at the latest, after the Memorial - Tiger loses that win off his OWGR calculation, and everything else continues to get fewer points due to reduction in weighting.

Players play, tough players win!

I fully expected him to be #1 after The Players. Congrats to him when it does happen, but I'm sure he himself would admit he'd like to reach #1 whilst competing with Tiger, not just because he's injured.

The OWGR calculator takes over this week. He'll be moving into the top spot. I feel like it would be more satisfying with Tiger playing, though.

Let's not all get too excited.  He just got married.  His game will go south like the rest of us. ;-)

It looks like Scott needs to finish in a two way tied 13th or better at Colonial to hold onto #1 over Stenson who finshed t7 at the BMW.  He is currently t11, but there are 56 players within 6 shots of the lead, so it is really anyone's ballgame.

With Rory's win, there look to be 5 players (not counting Tiger) who could claim #1 in the coming weeks (assuming Scott doesn't extend his lead with a top 2 or 3 finish).  A win by Jordan Spieth would put him into the mix also.

I just wish they'd make #1 "TBD" right now. It's kinda ridiculous all this hype over it but no one really deserves it. Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson haven't been in contention on a Sunday since early this year and they're battling for #1? Just can't take the ranking seriously. Not until someone goes out and actually earns it. Maybe Rory can get hot here, pile up a couple wins and go out and earn it.

Well, Scott played like he was #1 today and the win means that it is unlikely we will see any chance for a change at the top until the US Open (where Stenson and possibly Kuchar, Watson and Rory could go to #1 with a win depending on how Scott fares).

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
