Deutsche Bank Championship

Hopefully this is the right thread and place for this.

But I am looking to go to the Deutsche Bank Championship this upcoming August. Im planning on taking my father for a fathers day gift, i figure its a nice thing we can do together. I really don't know much about these events but my father is a huge golf fan and Ive been getting into it. Since we live in NY this event is really the only close PGA event thats within our region.

Im looking for any advice on this matter. I want it to be a special weekend, so should i buy the rope side seating or skybox seating? or is it not worth it and should we just do ground? ANY and all advice is much appreciated. Thanks

I would just do ground. You get to see the whole course and if you get ahead of the crowd you'll be able to find some good spots to watch the best players.

I would say it depends on your dad's physical capabilities. If he is active and likes to walk, I would say do a bit of both. I have always enjoyed walking and actually following different groups for a few holes, getting to really see the action up close. You get a better appreciation of how good these players actually are. You do wind up walking about 3 times as much as the players to get good vantage points. So walk some and break it up with sitting before anyone gets too tired to enjoy. It is nice to take a break and have a seat at a good spot such as the stands around a green or where you can see the green of one hole and the tee of another, and watch several groups of players coming through. Another place I enjoy taking a break is at the practice range.

I have a friend who marshalls the ProAm.  He says that is a good round to go to because the players are very friendly and interact with the fans more.

Parking is an issue at this event.  They have you park at satellite lots in the area and bus you to the grounds.  It's not real far, but I thought your should know.  I have not attended, but I live in the area.

I went last year and followed the Phil, Tiger and Adam group on Friday morning.  It was probably the best golf-related experience I've had.  And it was PACKED, like 4-5 deep around most tee boxes and greens.  But if you plan it out right, and walk ahead and find openings where you can wait until your groups approach you will be fine.  It really is something special to see these guys play.

The type of experience you want to have really should govern what tickets you buy.  If you're looking to get bombed and watch whoever happens be playing your hole, then get the club/box seating (and get your wallet out).

If your're looking to see the course, follow specific players and really get an up close and personal view, go with general admission.

Either way, if you are a golf fan its awe-inspiring.
